If I lived in a certain area I'd definitely want a gun stashed somewhere just in case I needed it (with no laws telling me I couldn't have it in my house to protect myself), so I see why people feel a "need" to have them in America.

But at the same time, we're at the point where we are desensitized to this mess.

I don't think anyone is saying you shouldn't have a gun once you've passed a background check and reasonable evaluation. What persons shouldn't have are AK-47s, machine guns, rocket launchers . Is it Afghanistan? That can't be so hard...
