Purple Moon

Would be interesting to know. Does she have one that she uses all the time? Did she use different ones on each album?

:supluv:
Must be a purple moon, feel like one of those nights...

lol I dont think she has a signature mic and that might be because her voice is preety flexible tone wise
most of her human  recordings were cheap
and her full moon recordings were kinda questionable as well

i think its a rodney thing maybe he like a vintage boxy sound
but when she stopped working with rodney

Her acapellas became alot more  clear cut with low end taken out  and more transparent signal

If you listen to her full moon and nsn  acapellas you can actually hear fan noise in the backround lol

in this off era

alot of her productions pre camper gave tanisha basement teas

I dont think she has a signature mic lol

Thanks for that Lew! I also found some more info about what she recorded with from a guy who was there for some of the "Human" sessions with Rodney:

"I worked with her with RJ, but also with some of the other producers. I usually like a C800G, into a neve 1073, into a Distressor...i used that a lot on her and it's kinda my goto chain. I can't say enough about the distressors and really the whold chain. At RJ's place I was using a Tubetech CL1B instead of Distressor...I like them both. I worked at a lot of different studios with a lot of different people on that CD, I believe when we were at boom boom room I used API pre instead of NEVE, but still Distressor...the constant i suppose was the C800G. Although often at RJ's, not for this CD but others, we'll use some Neuman mics too"

If you check that link they're also discussing which effects etc. she uses and how she stacks her vocals. Super interesting.

Her vocals are undeniably a gift
And people from all walks of life can recognize it.

Her artistry is so inspiring .
The way they were talking about her ability to stack and stay consistent omfff

I have to stan :stressed:

I found some more discussions on the net about this this, in case you're interested in maybe also using some of these techniques for your own songs? Btw do you stack your vocals? And which DAW do you use?

Omg please share-- I could hear/read about that kind of stuff all day.
Im trying to really learn it in a technical way as well. Because I have no idea what a DAW is  :plzstop: :dead:

But I do stack my vocals -- I now want to do more stacks like How Bran was doing.
Typically I think I only stack the same note 2-3 times. and then add then add other layered harmonies.

But the stacking and flanging talk is pretty cool because I have been told by the producer I work with that Im really good at stacking my vocals so consistently and almost to a t; the some of the notes almost cancel out or sound Mono

All this stuff is really interesting to me. And I have really been studying the greats like Bran and her techniques to be able to grow artistically.

Pt.2 of this EP is coming soon bby :justabit:

I was asking because I could definitely hear the Brandy influence on your songs and the bg's really complimented the lead vocals. can't wait to hear more! i ordered recording equipment yesterday and am so looking forward to lay down proper demos for my songs, so i'm definitely gonna try and learn from brandy by listening more to her acapellas and reading about how she records her stuff.

DAW just stands for digital audio work station, meaning the software you use to work on your music. i wish i could use logic, but i dont have a mac right now, therefore still looking for what works for me. i read that the free ones like cakewalk, pro tools and reaper are great but i really need to watch some tutorials asap i guess cause i dont know anything about recording, other than pressing the record button and slapping some effects on the voice  :plzstop:

So here are a couple of more forum discussions about brandy's recording process, some from engineers etc who have been in sessions with her (allegedly):

Here's a video that could maybe give some inspiration:

And some of Brandy's acapellas to download:

https://www.acapellas4u.co.uk/artist/brandy

I really wonder if someone has the stems of her songs, so that we can actually listen to each track by itself or at least to the bg vocals without the lead vocal and music.  :ohwow:
