These are excerpts from diaries written by African slaves.

This one, written by Charles Williams of Louisiana, almost brought me to tears:

I knows one Beauty thing erbout myself. I cin ackomplush anything I lays my mits apond.

It's amazing to me that even in an atmosphere where we were treated no better than sheep or cattle, we were smart and strong enough to know our potential.

And there's another one in there which refers to the five civilized Indian tribes. We are so quick to claim Cherokee ancestry without even verifying it... But people don't know that many Cherokees held African slaves. They were sell outs. Wannabe whites. And still got that ass shipped to the Midwest like everyone else.
