I think it's a combination of stuff, but Brandy does make her money from non-music like acting and endorsements which is why a lot of labels have always tried to get her into a 360. If her agent is calling about a role then acting is going to take #1 priority. Even now I wouldn't be surprised if she's more focused on acting since signing that Motown deal since she has booked at least 3 roles since then.
Brandy needs to go the Nas route... find a hot producer she meshes with and just release a series of projects... she overthinks in the wrong places, wish she put in that much effort into her marketing and rollout plans

It would've just been demos for random female artists that she sang. Rico doesnt write to the artist and thats what I felt was missing the most from his work with Brandy. On Two Eleven, u can tell the songs Sean Garrett did, he vocally produced with Brandy in mind (So Sick, Put It Down, Wildest Dreams). While with Rico, the vocal delivery was bare and she didnt put that Brandy stamp on the songs as much.

Hardly Breathing was my fave off first listen, so that I will give him credit for. Either way, if the songs were that good, Rico would've just passed them on to other artists to sing them instead, which he didn't. So they must not have been that good. Brandy ends up working with writers past their prime. Her work with NeYo was very meh too.

There needs to be a balance between being authentic and being marketable. Wildest Dreams is a sweet, genuine song, but it's not radio friendly. Same with Baby Mama. I understood where she was coming from, but girl, no. And then paying for mainstream urban radio to promote it. :dead:

Yeah I totally agree! She needs to find a balance... and sometimes the balance is right in front of her face, Do You Know, Slower, Rather Be, No Tomorrow... we can keep going on the missed opps but she doesn't realizes it until the GP makes it obvious for her and by then it's already too late
