This explains alot tbh.

The black community needs to get it tf together and start taking mental health serious.
Although it is kinda odd that despite the ignorance to mental health suicide although not uncommon in the black community isn't as prevalent as it is in the white community.
That's actually a good point.

No shade and I hope this doesn't sound to grossly ignorant but I think it could be because a lot us are built to be Ford tough from the beginning from starting our lives in tougher circumstances - like many of us are literally born into hardship. Could give more time to develop a thicker skin before we even know what the concept of suicide is.

Yeah that's true. plus I think were taught that suicide is bad. I remember growing up I didn't empathize with people who committed or had thoughts of suicide because I had been told they had a one way ticket to hell for it and thought they were just weak.

:plzstop:

I've heard shit like, "if you ever committed suicide, i wouldn't show up to your funeral, no one will".

That's true - there's definitely pushing of this concept of "the only unforgivable sin" mess in the Black church.

I definitely remember that.

The idea was - you can't repent for this sin if you're already dead.

Yup.

I spent the first 15 years of my life on/off in the church during New Year's Eve... ball dropping.

I've now discovered God on my own.
I'm thankful my parents "allowed" me to do that... there was no discussion, I just went off and discovered God in a different way.  As a child, you don't really get much room to figure out HOW to approach God.

Looking forward to this book. I remember watching this dateline story about this famous Olympic athlete that was exposed as an escort but it turned out that she was bipolar and sex addiction can be correlated with the disorder
