Quote"The Boy Is Mine" was also the international breakthrough success, peaking on the charts at number one in Japan, Canada, Netherlands and New Zealand
I had no idea
:omgwatshappening:
Wow Global Quee'
Is this real? Am I the only one that didn't know?
v
it was a monster hit
Imagine the impact of there was actually promo and that ghetto banshee bitch didn't put her crusty paws on Ghan . No promo and 1 performance....and the song was HUGE
I mean I know it slayed but like going even top 10 in Japan as an american, let alone as an R&B artist is HUGE.
Wow yeah. The other girls are lucky that this was barely promoted.

!!!i could've probably lasted at number 1 a few more weeks
In the 90's, good music didn't need promo. The music promoted itself.
Brandy's power
GHAN>>>
The Netherlands was stannning too yessssssss
not surprised the song was huge.
Wowz & NSN went Platinum. Queen!
I think she'd do well there if she promoted over there today. She still has singles charting in Japan & other Asian Territories
:stressed:
It was a runaway hit across the board

According to Billboard, it would've lasted more weeks, but a rule change came in its final week.

R&B artist used to rule the charts as much as white pop artists.

I can't think of another song that was this huge, that wasn't promoted or performed.

That rule change came in December 1998, months after it had already peaked. The song wasn't affected by the rule change.
So now success in Japan is "power"
but...
Well it is the #2 music market in the the worlds
Yet when Mya released albums there it was the worst thing in the world?
fuck y'all
ffff well yeah cause she sold 5000 copies luv
No that's not why
they didn't even release the numbers and no one ever mentioned that
it was "JapanYa!" "Egg roll!" Just off the fact she released there at ALL
for like 3 years niggers would not let it go
Now it's the 2nd biggest market huh?
ddddd oh well I wasn't there for that
I just come with the facts
:supluv:
Love Fallen btw.

Fyxft Mess I didn't even know ppl made fun of Mya
Yeah you weren't here

:dead:
Mya wasn't "forced" to release in Japan. She chose to release in Japan after her label's mishap with Liberation and Liberation received great reception from Japan. Out of that situation rose a blessing in disguise. She was able own her masters now and collect a check at the same time
Wowz drag me

Releasing exclusively in Japan is a lot different than Bran and Mons situation
though
I wonder what its total sales are to date
:ohwow:

If iTunes was around back then, the sales would be astronomical

I always say this!
If it had the same chart run today I think it'd sell at least 6 million in the US alone.
It sold 2.6 Million (in the US) in 6 months just in 1998. Imagine now.

People had to go into stores to purchase.

8 million plus easily in the U.S. alone, if it was during the digital era.
And the youtube video views it would have amassed.
Bitch.
