Kelly doing alternative music made absolutely no sense. She should've been allowed to record an R&B album as well.

!!!

That was all Mathew's doing. He sabotaged that girl.

!!!!!

His confused her fanbase and alienated her from R&B radio in the process.  :dead:

I believe Beyonce solo album initially was an experimental album but after Work It Out received lukewarm reception she changed direction. Her solo album was set for an October 2002 release too.

Yes, she was intending to fuse more soul.  She was in that VIBE article referencing artists from the 70s like she was really about to give a neosoul tea.

Kelly's voice was AWFUL on When Love Takes Over performances.

Motivation should have been the start of a new era for Kelly, but she couldn't follow up with hits like she should have.  People were all ready to support her.  Motivation was way more embraced than Run the World at the time.

The only reason Simply Deep sold semi-well was on the strength of Dilemma.  That single was a surprise hit (even Nelly didn't intend to release it as a single yet, but radio was playing it), huge smash, and they rushed Kelly's album in a matter of weeks to capitalize.  Simply Deep produced no other hits.

Like This was also a moderate hit for her, and it was R&B.

A lot of people went up for Bad Habit, too.

Crazy how shit works out.

WLTO was a worldwide smash though probably overall bigger than Motivation and everything else

RAY7

looking at Kellys wiki
I see Work and Commander were also certified outside the US
its not a genre or Matthew forcing Kelly to do stuff issue
SHE is the issue. if the song is good, she can get a hit R&B or not, but no one is gonna buy her albums

She was getting hits overseas, at least

Sans motivation she was getting hits NOWHERE doing r & b  :kii:

Opposites Attract.

Kelly is a flop because she's lazy. Her albums are good. She has never put in the work to become as big as Beyonc?. Her voice is ugly live, her videos are tragic, her performances don't wow, her interviews are always about Bey, I can go on and on.

She's done. I had hope back in 2013 but once she canceled that tour with King to do Xfactor I knew she was done.

It's unconditional, these days you know....

GLOCK

Can?t believe this girl Kelly didn?t go platinum

Well if she wanted to set up homebase in Switzerland or something, she could have kept doing that euro mess. :hmph:

Her problem was she never could put together a string of hits.

It was Dilemma... huge smash
Like That... moderate hit a whole album later
Motivation... song of the summer. another album later

But outside of R&B, no one cared about her at all, except Europeans.

Can you do two or three strong singles on one project, girl?  :guys:

Jumping genres all the time, she has no real artistic identity.
