i get what theyre saying
i think their argument is that the practice of screening out applicants based on criminal history is fine, but when you have a criminal justice system that unjustly/disproportionately targets black and brown people, this hiring practice (which is dictated by those very statistics) also effects black and brown people in a disproportionate way. so if there is another method that doesnt depend on the proven discriminatory practices of our legal system, why not go with that?
that being said, im not sure its accurate to accuse sheetz of racial discrimination here. they might know exactly how the legal system works in order to allow them to get away with it. but on its own, the policy isnt directly racially discriminatory.
