crying. its even more obvious that she's pop/R&B like everyone else when you start naming the songs  :dead: :dead: :dead: WHERE is the neo soul?

she's just boring overall, so y'all lump her in that. n
jjj is that why this is so long
Who in their right minds would class Alicia as neo soul

who do ya think? :kii:
he thinks Khia is talented lol
I don't know why people take him seriously

Miranda

Khia IS talented. She produces and writes all her albums. And she is the only one to slay independently without any male co-sign. Plus she is 100% natural and consequent to her truth. No surge, no gimmick, no co-sign, just straight up talent and grind.

Alicia actually gets classified as a neo soul artist all the time.  I always thought she was way more pop than the other artists in the neo soul category.  I could never see India Arie or Angie Stone sing the Kandi penned Jane Doe the way Alicia did.  Songs of A Minor is half pop songs and half soul songs. But it's always hard to put people directly into a little box with a label on it. I understand why they said she's neo soul.  She played her own instrument and she took from old soul acts to come up with some of her songs.

Wtv

Bey and Alicia are two completely different artists, dont see why one would outshine the other, if their music/lane was so different

whatever

everyone doesn't have to dance tho.
Beyonce isn't the only one that can be out there doing it...

there are different artists for different people.

And yet Alicia tried to anyway.

Songs In A Minor is one of the poster child neo soul albums. Live instrumentations, jazzy vocals, self-written "deep" lyrics.

Some songs are. Some aren't. Girlfriends, Jane Doe and Mr. Man aren't even close to being neo soul, IMO.  Then some of the ballads like Troubles, Goodbye, and Butterflyz are just as easily adult contemporary pop as adult contemporary r&b.  I had that album and, while I understood them limping her in to the neo soul category, I thought her music was much more pop and mainstream than what most of the other neo soul artists were doing.
