everyone doesn't have to dance tho.
Beyonce isn't the only one that can be out there doing it...

there are different artists for different people.

And yet Alicia tried to anyway.

if alicia was some nappy headed dark skin hefty womans there would be not a singe doubt that her first albums are 100% neo soul.
ur gonna look at her singles released and tell me that's neo soul? n

First two albums absolutely.

Girlfriend, A Woman's Worth, You Don't Know My Name, Diary...

That was not mainstream R&B ? la Ashanti, Beyonc?, Brandy at the time. And it wasn't gutter&B like Mary or Lil Mo either. She was giving India.Arie music with a sexy body and light skin.

Miranda

Ugh that debut is IT.

Mr. Man, Girlfriend, Never Felt This Way, Butterflyz, Jane Doe, Troubles, Fallin, A Woman's Worth, Mr. FUCKING MAN....

Better than any Bey album tbh

The Brandy Barbie

Girlfriend is a typical contepmary r&b song, to me.  It was produced by JD and sounded like it.

Miranda

Her jazzy vocal approach, the organic instrumentation, the witty lyrics. Bey, Bran, Ashanti, Lil Mo, Keyshia would have never put out sth. like "Girlfriend". This is more in the vain of D'Angelo, Jill Scott. It has crossover appeal, but Alicia's whole esthetic was very much in the neo soul vein.
