Excluding Brandy, of course. Let's hear it. :ATLcameo:
Whitney
I know we're excluding Brandy, but no one's voice does it for me like hers.
My favorite voice of all time tbh.
is there really a debate? Prime Whitney is "The Voice"
Whitney is really THEE voice tho...
Outside of Brandy, my other favorite voice was Lauryn Hill in her prime.
That's a hard question that can't be answered with just one female singer.
Every singer (male or female) will sound different on different songs and different vocal arrangements. And we only hear what they release/perform.
My personal Trinity is Bran Bey and Mo
The natural ear and sickening control that is Bran
The flawless technicality that is Bey
The conviction and rawness that is Mon
Ack!
They just DEW it for me
b
Whitney
Kelly Price or Kim Burrell
Lalah is up there
:stressed:
Whitney undisputably tbh
Other than Brandy, I would say Whitney. Beautiful voices!
n
Of all time? I'd have to go with Aretha or Ella Fitzgerald. Not taking anything away from Nip, but their voices really changed the game before Whitney even existed.

NO ONE had a voice like Whitney. Honestly, if anyone had what could be considered a "perfect" voice, it's her. She's the standard tbh
Definitely Whitney and Then Mariah for me
Mariah - even in her prime - in overrated tbh... I used to go up and up but really all she does is witch between whispering and cooing and then random power belts and a whistle mess here and there.
Whitney - even though mostly boring music - shat on that with her rich tone. Neither really gave it to me with the runs like a Kelly Price can though.
She would kinda hand it to both of them then and now.
Whitney.
I love mariah as an artist more.. however, Mimi has many live performances that just fall short... even in her prime.
Technically Whitney was just.. excellent.
I plead the fifth.

I think it's because she is the most universal voice
she is just enough soul
just enough pop
her voice can be rnb
she could prolly even pull off alternative
and she really made the powerhouse vocalist genre IMO
Aretha and Patti were there, but there's just a diff between them and what Whit/Celine/Mimi came to do :dead:

well i dunno ive fallen in love with brandy and its hard for me to see it for other vocalists
i would say whitney everything with her was unmatched
celine is great but her voice and style just isnt as universal as id like
mariah too popish and whispery and poor live performances
aretha i dont see anything special about her except the time her music prime was in
vocally kelly price has her beat imo
patti well shes like a stronger more durable vocal fantasia
so Brandy
whitney and patti
but if bran is excluded
whitney
Whitney. She's sort of the blueprint.

Whitney for sure.
Aretha is a close 2nd for me. She's incredibly skilled and a lot more skilled than many people really know.
Even tho Whitney is the best, her tone isn't the best and I actually prefer a Mariah (in her prime) vocal over a Whit. When it comes down to LIVE performances tho, Whit in her prime takes the cake. Love Anita's tone too. She should've been a lot bigger.

You made some good points. Even though she's the queen of soul, Aretha is sometimes underrated/underappreciated as a singer. Her skill is out of this world. Her ear is incredible and her ability to arrange is damn near incomparable. But Nip's live performances in her prime were flawless.
Kelly Price sings better than Mariah carey tho, i agree with that
Whitney. But like someone said, I prefer Mariah.
Whitney.
Whatever the greats could do well, she could do to a great degree. Her voice was rich and powerful. Yet her tone could be sweet when needed. She could run when needed and her vibrato was great. She had a great lower voice and great head voice. When she needed to growl and take it there, she could. Not to mention, she had great range.
All the things we look to the best singers for as far as their strengths, she could do all of those things pretty well. There will probably never be another voice like hers and that's why I don't really think any singer can do her songs justice the way she did....no one. They just don't possess all of the things her voice had.
Her albums may have left much to be desired, but in her prime, her voice was amazing.

!!! What makes MC better imo is that her voice was unique and different from everything else out there. Her range, inflections, her approach to songs >>>>. Kelly can never give what MC gave on a lot of her songs. She just sounds like a fat, black soul singer that can really sing well.

I just prefer kelly thats all. I remember seeing early mariah videos and she used her voice well. Im honestly just not a fan of mariah's voice like that. Its like how some people recognize celine can sing but they don't necessarily love the tone of her voice or whatever, that's how i feel about mariah. If its between mariah (AT ANY POINT in her career) or kelly price, id rather hear kelly price
