If we identify as "black", why do we get uneasy when white people say it?

I don't care if they call me black.  Just don't refer to all black people as "blacks".  There is a difference to me.  I definitely call white people "white people," but I don't call them "whites."  There is just something derogatory about it.

I know it's to differentiate between White & Black African people.
Here in the US I barely hear that term. So it kinda catches me off guard. No shade.

Well I mean it makes sense since I'm sure there are probably alot of non Black North Africans there.
