I know it's to differentiate between White & Black African people.
Here in the US I barely hear that term. So it kinda catches me off guard. No shade.

But I think so many of these things have to do with the way we've associated these terms within our own community

For instance, say the term "dark skinned" and people are giving the side eye...say the term "light skinned" and people are rolling their eyes...and don't you dare fucking say "mixed".
