She was seen as this quirky, innovative, futuristic artist back in the day cause she wasn't pretty like Kim, Eve or Fox, didn't spit hard either, but her raps were more goofy and nonsensical. Which worked just fine back then. Also her music videos really cemented her image as a "futuristic artist". She didn't have much street cred but was more of a critics darling (mostly cause of Tim/Missy production duo) as well as reaching pop stardom since she was everywhere with them collabos.
Then she just stalled after The Cookbook. No evolution whatsoever. It's the same ol Missy but everyone else moved on to better sounds and topics. That's why she hasn't been able to release another album, she's unable to catch up.
