Producer Stuart Brawley gives some background info on the making of "Come A Little Closer" from the Full Moon albumQuote
thestuartbrawley Sound on. In the middle of my time with MJ, I was in Miami mixing at the Hit Factory Criteria, and Michael's producer Rodney had sent a demo of a song I wrote with @jason_derlatka to NSYNC for possible inclusion on their next album. We were blasting it in the control room when Brandy (working in another room at the facility) came bursting in and exclaimed WHAT IS THIS, I NEED TO RECORD THIS SONG. What followed was me working out of two rooms for a few weeks - ping ponging between mixing Michael Jackson and co-producing Brandy with RJ and Jason, and Tommy Mottola at one point calling to lecture me that I needed to prioritize Michael's mixing. We tracked live strings at Capitol records with a sweet arrangement by Jeremy Lubbock and then brought in Babyface's mixer Jon Gass.
"Come A Little Closer" was mixed for radio at one point in preparation for it being the next single off of "Full Moon." As fate would have it, Brandy got pregnant and all promo from the album stopped. I'll post the demo that Jason sang at some point.

Come a little closer would've been a cute single
much better than PEE is. Full Moon is the one Brandy album outside of NSN that had a decent amount of potential hits. Anybody, Nothing, When You Touch Me etc
They all probably would've flopped tho seeing as how Brandy stopped promoting the mess before syrai was born
Loooove this song
she SANG her face off
:dead: at her just BURSTING in the room demanding a song
Not come a bit closer being a single. They didn't give af how that album did :omf:

i actually love CALBC :stressed: i think it woulda smashed on pop radio or something
very lullaby-ish. sing along friendly
Yea I think it was probably between this an that Pop version of He Is. I'm glad it was neither though. If anything she needed to stay R&B focused
I definitely could see calbc doing damage on pop especially during late fall/winter months
They were really gonna chose every song except I thought as the next single huh
:damselindistress:
The next single should've been "I Thought"
however this is one of my favorite song on FM
I wouldn't have been mad at Like This for 3rd single. She had 2 bops already released she needed something slower. I'd say When You Touch Me but it's just so HUGE it's kinda too good for radio IMO
The ballads were the standouts as fan faves at my high school. I wanted apart/anybody/I thought to get single treatment.

I agree with this.
A brandy n'sync remix if the single took off would have been cute too

it's a cute 4th single mess :supluv:
This song doesn't get enough praise. She really slaughtered this from start to finish

I LOVE POP VOCAL BRANDY. DEFINITELY ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE BRANDY SONGS.
This would have been a terrible single :omf:

This surprised me cause CALC doesn't even sound like the type of song she would go up for at that time.

The song was really popular here in Barbados Love FM 104 use to play that song a lot
I would love a rerelease for an anniversary with alternative versions. Still such an amazing record
So glad these cheesy song that was intended for a white boy band was nowhere near a release ffgghhhhh
and lmfao @ this being a better song than " He Is"

Bran was known for her ballads back then. And this one more than any of the others on FM had Pop appeal. I still think it would've done really well.
CALC honestly would've appealed to white folks more
let's just slice into the chocolate cake and say that
but GHan was no stranger to putting out tea to do that .... "Have u ever snored" etc
so I can see the gorls seeing CALC as a single

Yup
I remember hearing CALC on B96, a top pop and rhythmic station in Chicago. It sounded sooo good. In my opinion, CALC had the potential to be the "Have You Ever" for Full Moon.
!!
it's very have you ever
corny cheesy poppy n cute
I actually prefer it over HYE ... it has a bit more of a kick to it
Not as dreary long winded and sad
Not too much on have u ever. Have u ever kinda a slept on imo. #Chitown standup Seven.
The sound of music was changing so much in 2002/2003. I dont think any of the FM ballads would've been hits. I Thought after Full Moon only.

They must've wanted her to have a pop hit. Reading this makes me think how they even tried to force a pop version of "He is" 😩

The way her A&Rs wasn't really thinking!!! This would've smashed in the UK too & I would've preferred this as a single over I Thought
Come A Little Closer kind of gives me an updated Almost Doesn't Count vibe with the guitars
I mean, Brandy was still considered mainstream at this point, but this is really interesting. Def one of my faves.
One of her bes messes!
The vocal on CALC tho :stressed:

THIS.
For the purpose of POP radio.
I would have loved Like This/When You Touch Me as singles on R&B.
Come A Little Closer is the most played song on Spotify after FM, WAU, HI...

Before 2004, Brandy's image was the sorta edgy Pop R&B girl. Come A Little Closer would've fit well with her brand at the time.
How could you hate LWCMO that piano in the beginning alone just rips into your heart and soul. Some of y'all are legit nuts.
Let me play it now

When I got the album I thought 'I thought' was going to be the next single. I remember my brother telling me they played it in a local club here in Holland and I was like wtf I thought they only played rock and trance. How do they know my girl Bran and songs that are not singles. My brother was stanning and he didn't know her music back then :gorlonfire:
