i was hoping joe would go there and TAP Ja's ass real quick (so 50 could laugh at him :woohoo: )
but instead this burrito was in his FEELINGS all night and ended up resorting to calling lil mo and vita "dusty bitches" and saying ja rule found them in a crackhouse. All while they were backstage at the event.
and ended up having to run to twitter with an apology afterwards after the gorls LIT his ass up.
he gonna have to learn that you're chilling at the BBQ, but ur not quite like the others there so u better watch that MOUTH. :shook:
Black men can't even get away with this mess in 2021. You're a whole man. Respect women. Especially Black women.

Yeah, as black people we definitely need to treat these situations w/ bold indignation. This type of mindset likely comes into play when Joe is hiring for his businesses and in the way he might raise his children. It's misogynoir. But some black people, specifically black men, allow just about anything in rap.
But I thought this is what they DO at these shows?
So I want that same energy they used to defend DaBaby
:woohoo:
i think fat joe was just talking out his ass honestly
dont think it was racially motivated
cuz if vita and lil mo were dusty bitches just cuz they're black women, then his guest who he brought to the stage (Remy Ma) would def be one too.
but still. he needs to watch it. associating black women with crack houses, calling them dusty.
it just aint gon SIT right with people. including me. he deserved the lashing

Joe's use of the N-word is also problematic. He is a white Hispanic. His parents are also white Hispanics. Not to mention their cuban descent. I'm going to generalize a bit, but Cubans are largely Republican with often anti-black views, especially those from Florida. Not saying Joe is Republican, but that certain upbringings and ideologies aligned w/ anti-blackness might inform part of his life perspective.

i don't think Joe is White.
he's very light but looks more Indigenous than anything. (Taino) then White and some African.
I know PR people who look like him and have parents that are leaning almost fully Taino.
his features - that nose, his eyes, etc. he's not a Ricky Martin by a long shot.
he's most definitely of color.
i can see ppl having a problem with him saying the "n" word though. he's def not a Black man.

I'd say jlo is probably predominately white (Spanish)
But I can see Taino in her too
And Ricky Martin is what I'd call a white hispanic
Like I'm sure he may have those "other" roots too but it doesn't register for me . So it's probably super far back

Though, I disagree with the use of the N-word regardless of race. His disrespect of black women is a major sticking point in this case though. I remember how controversial this J lo song was. Ja Rule told her it was ok to just follow Ashanti's demo?
It's censored in the original vid she got on her channel.
2001:
"For anyone to think or suggest that I'm racist is really absurd and hateful to me," the singer-actress tells The Associated Press. "The use of the word in the song ... it was actually written by Ja Rule [and] it was not meant to be hurtful to anybody," she said during an interview on NBC's Today show this morning.
"I don't want to give it too much energy," Lopez said of the controversy. "I'm here to perform for the fans and that's what I'm going to do."
Ja Rule: Ja, who penned the cut after being asked to collaborate with J. Lo by Sony Music CEO Tommy Mottola, said he doesn't see why Lopez has received flack for using the "n-word" on the track.
"I think it's silly," Ja said. "I think the whole thing, like everything else, is being blown out of proportion. She's not the first Latino to use that word on a record, and it's never been an issue before. I think it's just that she's a very high-profile star and it's something to let people get a chance to poke at her."
As a Puerto Rican rapper, have you ever been criticized for using the N Word?No absolutely not. Because blacks and Latinos anywhere you go in any hood, any ghetto, we're right beside each other, and with each other all the time especially in New York City. They've been calling me "that nigga" my whole life. I go to Africa, and the Africans say "what's up Fat Joe my nigga-ah?" So they don't have a problem with it. It's a term of endearment.

When Latinx People Use the N-WordMany of us assume our proximity to black people makes it O.K. for us to say the word. It's not. Oct. 17, 2019
QuoteAnd during a recent appearance (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=17&v=U0riIBEEW1w) on the New York hip-hop radio station Hot 97, the Puerto Rican and Cuban-American rapper Fat Joe equated Latinx people with African-Americans, adding that they "may even identify themselves with African and black culture more than black people." The comment prompted debate online, in part because his own long history of casual N-word usage fundamentally overlooked how the slur is weaponized against blacks in ways it cannot be against nonblack Latinx people such as himself.
[...]
Perhaps within their inner circles and among their black friends they are able to use the word without consequence — the rapper Ja Rule, Ms. Lopez's featured guest on "I'm Real," defended her (http://www.mtv.com/news/1445967/ja-rule-defends-j-lo-gets-stevie-wonder-seal-of-approval-for-new-cut/). (She also claimed in the midst of protests (https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/2001/07/14/protesters-see-no-affection-in-jlos-use-of-racial-epithet/2b9832d0-6275-4cb6-b1b2-6bb990f2745b/) and opposition from major radio personalities over the single that it was he who wrote the lyric (https://genius.com/a/remembering-jennifer-lopez-s-n-word-controversy-15-years-later) for her.) But as public figures whose language choices affect a greater number of people with different experiences and perspectives, it reflects poorly. And each star failed to understand the gravity of the word and its relationship to black pain, responding in tone-deaf, defensive non-apologies.

i kinda feel for people like Fat Joe who literally grew up in the hood, shared the same turf as Black people...grew up in the hip hop culture (which includes the "n" word)...had the same struggles...and genuinely feel ONE with the community
and are suddenly being told "u cant say that". i do think it's unreasonable to not only expect these people to know they shouldn't be saying something they've been saying for decades with no malice and no issue, but to also LABEL them a certain way - racist, etc.
BUT at the same time, if black people themselves have to spend time UN-learning things ..such as what words we use when speaking with one another...dropping words like "nappy" from our vocabulary - whether or not it's meant to be malicious....
someone like fat joe should be prepared to UN-learn things as well. and be open to dropping a word or two from his vocab too. he doesn't get a pass from the classroom. lol
ultimately it comes down to the rule of intent vs. impact....the latter being the most significant factor
so although i am reasonable enough to understand WHY someone like fat joe is comfortable using certain language, so it literally never offends me..... i feel he should be open to learning why it may offend people when it's said in 2021.

His eyes nose etc are all very Taino / indigenous
what I was talking to Martin about had nothing to do with how "down" that makes him

it was just about his appearance / race . If u keep reading further in this thread ull see more of what I said specifically in regards to being "down"

Yea, NYC is very different with defining boundaries and I had to adapt QUICKLY. Who's included in the "culture" stretches a bit.... FURTHER there.

right.
It's regional . That's why I can kinda understand why ppl have such a hard time understanding the dynamics of NYC . Although the conversations can be super frustrating
In places like North Carolina where I've been
I've been the line is def drawn a lot more clearly.
They even question black folks on their degree of blackness :omf: which I had literally never seen before

am mean other races do it
Gate keeping . Asians will be quick to drawn the line if they see a DROP of "other" in someone . Same with White people historically . Curry Indians , etc
So shit why can't black ppl do it too. I'm honestly not against it
BUT I think it'll be a lot more confusing and harder for us to do that because there's much more diversity in our community than Asians , etc. you can put two Asian ppl next to each other and they will look exactly the same . (No shade)
It's just not that simple for black people - mostly due to generational mixing from slavery . Which is why Rachel passed as a Creole tea for years with no objections :omf:
Puerto Ricans and Dominicans use the N

That's a very offensive thing to say. So a Korean and an Indonesian looks the same to you?
To be completely fair ... considering that joe is obviously mixed I can see some people maybe seeing him as White .
I mean Martin also said he considers him to be White so we have at least two people in this thread who agree on that .
That's the thing with people of mixed heritage ... it depends on who is looking at them. I've seen people say Mariah looks like a white woman and others who are like :uhh: :uhh: when people deny her blackness .
But she's mixed so it makes sense . It can be a toss up
I personally thought Fat Joe and Big Pun were African American.

East Asians . Korean Japanese Chinese
