This was an interesting read. The music industry is disgusting and has barely changed over the years.
I think 360 deals are now the industry standard as opposed to years ago when one's lawyer and/or manager had an easier time negotiating non-360 deals.
QuoteThe draft outline of Walker's deal with LVRN and Interscope stipulated that she would have received just $110,000 as an advance. The proposed royalty rate for her debut and its follow-up was 16% — meaning she would take home just 16 cents out of every dollar she generates once she has recouped her advance.
Managers say these numbers are low by contemporary standards. They drop lower (starting at 15%) in the deal Walker ultimately signed, in which she also gave up her masters. (One progressive music company, Indify, does not even allow acts to sign royalty deals or give up ownership of their masters on their platform, believing that both practices are unfair to artists.)
:disgusted:
Summer is really getting hosed with that contract. Meek Mill was just complaining that he isn't making money from his music.
Why would she give up her Masters? :uhh:
Not really a bad deal,, her only mistake was not having deadlines on these things
Sad!!! Hopefully she can renegotiate the terms of her contract somewhere down the line.
Smh

In 2021, you don't really make much from masters unless you're a HUGE artist.

Wow this is an awful ass deal.
There has to be some conflict of interest with LVRN being both the management and the label.

Why would she give up her Masters? :uhh:
The way that it's worded in the article makes it seems like she gave them up
but knowing how bad this deal is it was probably never offered in the first place.

Girl iz you dumb :shook: owning your masters is way more money if endorsements/campaigns wanna use your songs and stuff you can get the coins and get paid that's one of the cons they don't have to go thru the label for permission and all the other legalities sis
I don't know why y'all bother fjfjgjgj

Not a $110k cash advance! She might as well continued to clean toilets for a living. Somebody took advantage of this slow ass girl. That's illegal.

Who the hell advised her to give up her masters? Omg and she's one of the few young girls that streams really well, especially after Drake remixed her record. What a mess
