The phrase gets a bad rep in general cuz it's associated with childishness , unnecessary rudeness etc which is never ok for grown ass folks to be engaging in

But sometimes if it's done very strategically ... it can be very effective and actually serve a purpose . It really depends on what "game" ur playing .

EDIT:
i think a better way to say this is sometimes people "play games " without even knowing it. It's not intentional but when u really think about it it's like wait ... there was def some STRATEGY involved in that. And it worked
