Mae was the first Black woman to blast into space on the shuttle Endeavor in 1992. When she was in Kindergarten, Mae told her teacher she wanted to grow up to be a scientist. Her teacher replied asking her if she meant "nurse", a career goal more likely to be achieved by a woman at the time. But Mae's dreams knew NO bounds, and they led her into space. She inspired little Black girls and boys around the world to reach for the moon, literally. I'm sooooooo in awe of her resilience and determination and by her journey.
