I actually like the album she could have gone pop or jump on all the trends right now and had all the biggest names on her songs for features. I'm proud of her I'll be looking forward to see how she navigates her sound after this album. She was clearly being experimental and some of these songs were clearly influenced by Kelis.
Princess has me up listening. Good album. Not perfect, but she really does have her own sound. This is the difference when a singer is actually very hands on in the creation of their shit.
I feel like "Cheatback" is a missed opportunity. If she just let her vocal stand on it's own and Future stayed the fuck home that day, this would feel like a major song. It will be interesting to see what happens with it.
"Make it Look Easy" and "I don't Mind" are absolutely great. Enough to make me play this album over and over. She exceeded my expectations.

That Missy track sounds so dated. I think there are nice tracks on the album but it's not that innovative..I just hear Doll Domination, Letoya Luckett's albums, Keri Hilson or Kelly Rowland. And a lot of lyrics sound very forced/generic somehow as if she's still searching for her identity. She's got a great voice but I wish Bey actually wrote some of these songs..is she even involved? It's as if Chlöe took all of her favorite songs and made watered down version if that makes sense..because this is how she expects a R&B album to sound like. I am sure a lot of people are going to love it, but I don't know if it will be memorable.
Vocals are great, there are some really nice moments..also with backgrounds. There's definitely potential.

I listened to the first 7 tracks and I'm just not interested in listening to the rest. This is an extremely weak project. Especially since she's Beyonce protege. Chloe needs to put down the pen. The lyrics to these songs, the ones I've heard, are all so damn cringy.

So I usually listen to the sound of the song first and the lyrics later. I like "I don't mind" and "worried" with "body do" being an ok approximation of a ciara song. "Fallin 4 u" should have been a full song.
Pray It Away has everything I like, great tempo, great production, harmony, churchy vocals but the lyrics/theme/composition of the song are horrible.
Looze U had potential. She should have sang more forward and with more emotion for the topic. The girls aren't giving us enough peaks and valleys in the songs.
Told ya is mostly late but it's creative with a lot of the sound being vocals

I agree! It's still impressive as a solo debut and I appreciate that's she been vocal producing and writing herself..but I think with the right writers and producers she can really create the 'artsy concept album' she wants to create.

Chloe should be rebranded. Very talented but her current branding & music output won't get her the success she deserves in music.
I really love "I Don't Mind", "Worried" and "Make It Look Easy". I think there's a lot growing to do. It evident there was a lot anxiousness and ambition to go solo and less focus on developing sound and growing as a writer/producer. The songs need bridges and to be longer than 2-minutes.

Then 2023 should have been a new CxH album in the second half of the year after the Little Mermaid was all wrapped up and Chloe was done trying to be a solo act

Exactly I was watching a reaction vid for FLO fly girl and someone mentioned how the message is so much different than most popular songs. It's about not needing validation and just having a great time. They are not impressed by material things or compliments. Cardboard box, losing you, not my job and immature are also about refusing to deal with BS, Summertime about having a good time with the girls..the lyrics are more empowering. I guess that's why I really enjoy their songs (their growth has been amazing to see as well).
Chlöe's music is often about pleasing the man, the male gaze. And accepting too much BS honestly. It's also a bit difficult to connect with her music because it sounds forced and dramatic (I don't mind explicit language but there's just something about her cursing a lot that's cringeworthy) I think she's still looking for her identity, it's just been very Beyoncé inspired so far. I think in the visuals the latex outfits are too much Bey..styling for Ungodly was perfect. Some lyrics and themes that work for a Beyoncé just don't work for her.
If she wanted to make 'art', a concept album about being broken and healing the order of the songs should have been different also. Maybe end with Make it look easy and Worried, instead of ending In pieces again and again. Cheat back is not as 'empowering' as she thinks. Chlöe just keeps ending up 'in pieces'. Body Do with different lyrics about breaking free would have been so good as a last track :caseoftheherp: I think that's the frustrating thing about the album, there is so much potential if she had better writers (better lyrics + I really miss a good bridge on some of these tracks). I think they might have given her too much freedom.
Lemonade was a very strong concept album because of the order of the songs; there's a real story and the person is evolving. There's anger, there's pain, there's forgiveness, love and empowerment..Lemonade had all the ingredients and it is a piece of art. It's a journey. You can't expect a new artist to deliver a masterpiece, I just wish she had better guidance.

The issue outside of Have Mercy is none of the songs outside of that was sent to radio for the GP everything seemed like it was to be market for Tik tok and Twitter.

Exactly I was watching a reaction vid for FLO fly girl and someone mentioned how the message is so much different than most popular songs. It's about not needing validation and just having a great time. They are not impressed by material things or compliments. Cardboard box, losing you, not my job and immature are also about refusing to deal with BS, Summertime about having a good time with the girls..the lyrics are more empowering. I guess that's why I really enjoy their songs (their growth has been amazing to see as well).
Chlöe's music is often about pleasing the man, the male gaze. And accepting too much BS honestly. It's also a bit difficult to connect with her music because it sounds forced and dramatic (I don't mind explicit language but there's just something about her cursing a lot that's cringeworthy) I think she's still looking for her identity, it's just been very Beyoncé inspired so far. I think in the visuals the latex outfits are too much Bey..styling for Ungodly was perfect. Some lyrics and themes that work for a Beyoncé just don't work for her.

I think there's truth to this. But also several other things could be at play here and it might be too early to tell. For one thing everyone isn't meant to be a solo artist and the mess with SWV and xscape show how true that is for girls that started in a group (or duo). She has vocal talent but nothing extraordinary by any means.

I just dont see her bouncing back from this and there are no potential hits to give the album legs. Best of luck to her acting career.
Ya'll gotta give Artists time to grow and evolve. You could be right but Doja was "flopping" out of the gate as well, numbers don't always tell the story right away. Feels like many of us are harder on the Black american girls but go up for these UK groups and Tori Kelly's (they have corny ass lyrics too lol) as if they can do no wrong. Everyone has room to improve and a chance to be greater in my opinion.
