so theres an older black lady who works at the front desk in my building
The lobby gets very stuffy and warm during the summer , but the front desk/concierge office has good AC and it's right next to the front desk .
She told me they were told to stay at the front desk - even though she's super uncomfortable there .
That didn't sit well with me at all. Actually it pissed me tf off.
So I called up the head of my HOA yesterday and let him know I didn't agree with that , and was very intentional in using the words "working conditions" in our conversation to make sure he was aware where this COULD go if he brushed it off . Cuz if I didn't get an immediate resolution it wouldn't have ended there.
So...Longer story short: today I was able to let her know that it's OK to go in the office moving forward and stay cool - as they are 100% able to monitor everything just the same in there . People's mail coming , etc.
Which is the way it shoulda been in the 1st got damn place in 92 degree weather.
I let her know everything has been formally OK'd but if anyone has any questions tell them to come SEE me .
She started dying laughing
Fbbfbfbf BFF
But I was dead fucking serious . Send them right to my unit auntie . Give them my full name and all. Phone number too! Lol!
She thanked me for speaking up for her .
Part of me wondered why no one caught this sooner but I'm not surprised - a lot of people in this building def dont see their auntie sitting there super uncomfortable.
But aunties cool and relaxing now - as she should be . Cute lil self  :woohoo:
cxxxxx activist!
they want them at the front desk period. get AC in the lobby if it's that uncomfortable. even tho it evidently wasn't uncomfortable enough for her to complain herself.

but she did complain - to me.
whats "evident" is that u overlooked an important of the story before being a smart ass:
QuoteShe told me they were told to stay at the front desk - even though she's super uncomfortable there .
there was an issue/complaint which was communicated but not to the people who could change it.
there is AC but it is malfunctioning near the front desk area specifically -
and until it's completely fixed, she won't be sitting there anymore for the summer.
she'll be just a couple steps away in the adjacent office nice and cool. like someone her age should be.
and
that's now the "period" at the end of the sentence. lol

Do you work for MTA?
so she didn't complain to THEM, which was obviously what i was referring to vvvvvcv
and like i said, they want them at the front desk, period. and if it's that serious argue for an ac mess in the lobby. since we calling hoa's n stuff. let's get some real change HUN

you really lack empathy. or just a bit of common sense, maybe?
it's not unheard of for people to be shy about confronting their boss about how they feel about a rule/policy, and instead, express it to colleagues or friends, or those who they feel comfortable and safe with - like, someone who calls them "auntie" on a regular basis.
have you NOT heard of this before?
the lobby AC is something that's been off and on - back and forth in the lobby.
i can understand delays or malfunctions. things that are sometimes a bit beyond immediate control
but what i won't understand is making someone sit through them when they are clearly 55+.
especially when there are clear and simple alternatives available.
she's good now and that's the end of it tbh.
not what they originally said, and honestly not what you said here either.
and that's all i have to say to u on this

oph comes across as being completely devoid of empathy
there's no way he would understand something like this.

-> older, 55+ woman complains to me about her discomfort, and how she's being forced to stay at front desk when there is an effective alternative only a couple feet away to relieve her and still allow her to do her job 100%.
-> i sense she's shy about really standing up to management, so i take ownership of the issue on her behalf
-> HOA guy acknowledges my concern as valid. he immediately responds and acts on it
-> most people in this thread (including myself) see the concern as valid, and feel appropriate actions were taken
-> you do not see the concern as valid. you feel that if they said this older woman should stay at the front desk, that should be the end of it.
I just listed a set of facts for you. I hope you interpret and utilize them in a way that's productive .
Love u
