but after really listening to her voice i get it.
her voice sounds relatively deep.
almost like a man, but still feminine. a bit androgynous
as a GODni stan i totally get it.
even her looks are kinda STRONG. her features, bone structure.
she could pass as trans.
their obsession with her isnt as random as i thought

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2528147/Cher-fans-asked-Is-man-Singer-forced-reassure-fans-early-career-deep-voice.html
QuoteCher had to reassure fans that she was not a man when she was younger because of her deep voice, a new book claims.
The singer hired a secretary to write letters to anyone who inquired about her gender in a bid to quash rumours that were going around.
One stark response to a fan in 1965 read: 'Cher, we assure you, is a girl.'
He wrote: 'Just three months after they hit the big time, Sonny and Cher's... secretary was charged with responding to each and every inquiry, even those from fans, to refute the rumour.
The 1965 letter continues: 'As for Cher's singing voice being too low: I think you will find that a lot of great female singers have low voices.'
'Tell your mom that Cher is just a very slim, very pretty girl with a low voice. I think if you listen closer, you will find a lot of feminine quality in her voice.'
No way someone could release something so camp and not be a gay icon.

I understand. I just watched a documentary on Little Richard, and it gave me a new respect for him and his impact for gay culture and music as well.

She's more of a singles artist to me because a huge chunk of her music up until the 80s without Sonny is really bad imo. Some of her albums are still out of print.
Smells transphobic in here

I only know like 4 Cher songs but this is def one of my favs. So good :flamebroiled:
@Black Aweikoma You did a good assessment of her with the flashy gowns and the androgynous look. She is truly someone I believe earned her icon title. I could pinpoint so many moments in her life and career that I believe are parallel to the gay community.
@Jon Even though I love some of it, that is true about her earlier work. I also think her early struggles touched the community as well. Gays can see themselves in her, especially during that period. Hollywood didn't accept her with open arms, it took her years to be taken seriously as an actress.
Gays have always thought she was fabulous but I don't think the media and the industry as a whole started to respect her until much later.
I wonder why she hasn't did a story about her life yet. She has such a powerful story.
