I'll give you the perfect example ..my sister is going through a very bitter and horrible separation and because I'm a Stan.. I take every opportunity to initiate a conversation about the Queen. She's living in my house and she won't leave here until she's a fan .. she shys away from brandy not that it's hatred it's almost like a fear of liking her over some of her other favs.. I ain't gonna tell her stupid ass to listen no more bran has carried me through so much heartache y'all ever experience that?
n
Is she a Beyonce fan?

not your sister going through a separation and you being more concerned with trying to make her a Brandy fan

Play her "it's on"

girl that's probably not her biggest fear right now
I feel like people would be more interested if she was consistent with the music.
Bran isn't as relatable to the urban audience. Monica has 14 million IG followers while Bran has 6, for example.
This OP has me screaming, but I'll bite.
Bran's always been seen as 'uppity' by a lot of people imo.

i kno thats right
There's a lot for a factors tbh. The first half of her career she was America's sweetheart, and I think being so prim & proper alienated a lot of Black people, in the same way Whitney got a lot of backlash for being "whitewashed". Then, since Afro and the whole marriage scandal people have realised that a lot of that image was "put on", which alienated her further because people thought she was fake :dead:
By this time Beyoncé and Rih were the main girls, meanwhile Brandy was taking 4 years breaks so she inadvertently let them take her spot.
So you can attribute it to a lack of consistency and having a corny image. I do think the last five years the narrative has shifted a lot and I'd even say it's "cool" to like Brandy now - I think the Two Eleven performances and the whole 90s resurgence thing helped a lot - even mainstream publications refer to her as the "vocal bible".
Just let her be
We all don't like the same stuff

Being relatable to the Urban market can only go so far.
Monica may be perched with tons of social media followers, but it stops there.
The deepfried gors like 'Shaquinndah' love her but ain't purchasing her musical mess. True tea
And the higher count for Monica's Insta speaks more to her level of activity on social media than her relatability
GHan notoriously tip toes around social media and hides for weeks sometimes
While Mon is somewhere claiming every celeb under the sun is her godcousin.
She's way more socially engaged than GHan. And that's reflected in her social media account stats .
Yes, Insta is mainly due to her activity and the type of stuff she posts versus Brandy. On top of that, social media is urban-driven.

I don't even care about Monica like that but she stays booked doing shows and is on an arena tour currently
Her relatability is clearly working well for her
maybe she just doesn't use? no matter how talented an artist is, they're never going to be EVERYONE'S cup of tea. it not a bad thing, it just is. i say let ppl like what they like (even if the taste is lacking :justabit:)
I realized a while ago that Brandy doesn't in general appeal to women.
If she had more women outside of her mom on her team those women would have realized this and tried to course correct decades ago with her interview answers, music (female geared songs) and image.
When one steps outside of fellow fans you can tell Brandy doesn't have a female audience.

!!!
I don't think not being relatable to urban audiences is the issue.
I actually think Brandy trying to pigeon hole herself into urban spaces has actually stifled her career to a certain extent. Even if these spaces and publications are praising her NOW. They haven't always. Those spaces tend to be misogynistic and have preference for men and rappers. The R&B Female artists get some consistency, but it's not outstanding. Brandy's album sales are pretty much on par with her peers without having to put in as much effort when it comes to branding and marketing.
Brandy just hasn't tapped into her true audience enough. The Disney girls, the 90s Y2K girls, soul-pop crowd, international markets. I think Brandy should actually step outside of R&B and go into Adult Contemporary. Brandy has crossover appeal, which some/most of her other R&B peers don't. And she can hit up international markets easily with her voice and catalogue of music.
She has a regal, earthy, wholesomeness to her and that is refreshing for a Black artist even if urban audiences don't appreciate it.
yall... not everyone is going to like her vvvvvcxxb
it's not that deep
:udontlookok:
I used to try to force my younger sister to like the same music as me but she went the opposite direction...

Without much effort? She was the definition of having a "machine" behind her.A hit tv show that ran six seasons and one of the most watched movies in TV history.
Brandy needs to tap into the alternative R&B & Black eclectic audience... she can easily take over that lane but her visuals and single selections be the pits

it's been DECADES since people are expecting Brandy to become that visual, futuristic, eclectic artist. Well she's not and that won't change anytime soon, it's time to accept her as she is, with her talents and flaws.
And Brandy's about to turn 50 in few years, she might have some old alt-R&B heads' attention, but the new generations won't relate to her or her music. Adult Contemporary is a perfectly fine lane for her to follow imo.

EASILY! But that start with firing her current creative team which I'll doubt she'll do

I've realized that a lot of people probably viewed Brandy the way some of us view these younger artists like Chloe and Halle now....
Annoying!
If someone where to come up to me 15+ years from now as tell me Halle or Chloe are The Vocal Quran I would scoff too...
Even though they will probably be vocally in their prime years from now...
Not sure if your sister is older or younger...but sometimes it's a generational thing as well..
