He was blackballed by Viacom after that F**k BET song, and the gay kiss at the BET awards turned a lot people off. People do not care that someone is gay as long as they do not see it. He also played a role in his current state by targeting religious people, which I still do not get.

Gays do dislike him, but it is mainly the white and brown ones mad that a black gay man had such huge success. He had the longest running #1 song in history. He was one of the most successful gay artists in history. Meanwhile, Troye Sivan is a flop. They were mad. Still are. They say he's untalented, but so are most of the new girls. He got famous as a country artist then jumped ship and fagged out and the girls lost interest..very few artists can switch it up and keep the same momentum. He should've stayed in the closet, rapping over country beats and he might've went somewhere. Oh well. Here we are now, he's biting Nicki Minaj, going out sad. I like Nicki too, but, get your own flow and stop your shit.

My 2 cents

I mean, he was a closet case during his biggest single, so he made it on being someone he is not. THEN he pushed it down everyone's throats when he came out and I think THAT is what probably turned people off.

!!!!! Its really that SIMPLE

im all about him being an out artist in hip hop. but his ENTIRE image just started REVOLVING around gay n edgy! like a caricature

and unlike nicki, he didnt know when to give up the gimmick. it's tired. we get it. u dont have nothin else to talk about? as an artist? maybe he doesnt, idk but the gors are over this one trick pony it seems

Well, it comes down to him also not being an artist. He has, somewhat, done a good job forming into one. There are a lot from that era that were gimmicky and/or propped up in false light. I know all people in Hollywood essentially aim to be famous but those same entertainers from that era who thrive on not being only being in the limelight but it's self-detrimental to them that they remain super relevant.

That being said, I love Nas and he has a good ear. He's beautiful and lovable but I hope he's forming a great support system. I watched some recent clips of him and there appears to be some heavy drug-use and that's sad to see.

I think his problem is that he leaned into the gay stuff too much/fast for the GP. When he first popped, I think a lot of people saw him as a cute fun artist their kids could bop to.

Then he started talking about dick and kissing boys lknvfjfnjvvvvvvv :dead:

The Montero era was kinda his commercial peak, so idk if the GP stopped caring

He just became too much of a shock value/gimmick artist.

Kinda like Gaga, the shock value and stunts become old at a certain point.

Now he's in his Joanne era. Doesn't help that the music isn't really hitting anymore either.

Quote from: Ulysses on March 14, 2025, 07:52:26 PMIt is crazy to think that he has one of the biggest charting songs in music history and just a few years later can't get on a chart anywhere

!!!!

If they can be successful, so can he...

I mean, he was a closet case during his biggest single, so he made it on being someone he is not. THEN he pushed it down everyone's throats when he came out and I think THAT is what probably turned people off.
he was still successful with that though
He kept pushing it down our throats. It got old. The gimmick only works for a lil while
do you work in marketing or how do you know that that's true?
Because I am one of the many people that got sick of him. I'm living proof and not your imagination

Exactly, youre one person. Stop speaking for others please. At the end of the day, nobody really knows why he has been flopping.
Well did you ask AI why he has been flopping?
no but seems like u want to. Go ahead babe

My 2 cents

Yeah, that isn't how it went. Montero was his biggest era as an artist, not a song, but an artist. Despite Old Town Road being huge, no one cared about the EP it was on. He achieved 2 #1 hits from the Montero era and was establishing himself as an artist.

What happened was, after the gay kiss, BET felt disrespected and didn't nominate him for any BET awards that following year. He retaliated with Fuck BET. That was his first single post Montero era to flop, and that was a Hip Hop record. After that, every song he released started to flop. He was blackballed. Also, many people sided with BET because they thought the gay kiss was too much. Remember some people, namely Lil Boosie, started about the kids...

All these other girls get to be one tricky ponys and hypersexual, but it is a problem when he does it? Or is he supposed to skate around his sexuality like Frank and Tyler?

n

unfair treatment! blackballed!

he's gimmicky and the gimmick is UP. yall can try to dance around it all u want, but thats kinda that on THAT. literally no one has suggested he "skate" around his sexuality. the reality is he has anchored his image in this gimmicky caricature of a black gay man and the girls aren't USING. BET aint even the force you trynna make it and tbh that ain't where his main audience lies. i won't even entertain this whole victim narrative lol. he could actually be impactful if he employed some actual diverse artistry instead of just hey guys, am gay! naked boys, look! gorl, what ELSE is goin on.

I hate to break it to you babe, it's a pretty fckd up world we live in. And guess what? People really not fucking using flamboyant effeminate black gay men like that..if anything, they JUST starting to MAYBE come around to it..a little bit, perhaps.

Now I applaud anyone willing to put it all out there and live their lives on the front lines, fighting for equality and risking their CAREERS and literally LIVES to the greater good. They are heroes, I don't deny that fact. Noble, even.

You can't expect everyone to do that and I don't. Speaking to this man's career, it's just a simple fact that if he was playing it straight he would be more successful. He chose otherwise, and I have the utmost respect for that, but what did you really expect? People gave him a chance. He got a couple hits, some notable success. But people aren't all the way into this homo shit like that. Let's wake up. Trump is back in office. It's gonna take more time until we can truly be embraced by the masses. Like, 100 more years at the very least.

Does Nas X have any serious songs? Like about being in love or breakups or anything of substance? I think that's his issue, I haven't noticed any single of his that was not some over the top stunt. The gays would probably support him if he gave them anything other than sex to relate to.

Sam Smith is successful, no?  Thank God he's trying to break the mold and normalize queerness in music. It will never change if people continue to sit on the fence afraid to lose their spot. Someone has to be the sacrificial lamb. This is the reason why the closet exist, why gay suicide exist, and why we have regressed under a Trump presidency. One little gay kiss and the world goes mad. I say make them madder. I'll support him if I am the only one.

cccccx u trying to make this so much deeper than what it is

sam smith WAS successful until he STARTED the gimmick mess(a reverse nas, if you will) abd he kinda faded odd. you tip toeing around the REAL issue. gays are tired of being represented as this one-dimenisonal caricature of werk! yes! all about dick! when they take up these facades, they're catering to a SEGMENT of the gay population. and the novelty eventually wears off.

secondly, the gays dont OWE them anything JUST because theyre gay. especially if we think the representation is late, gimmicky, and again one-dimensional. and its extremely lazy and dismissive to simply lump that into this "self-loathing" angle. the gors dont use and they have their valid reasons. you may not LIKE it, but you certainly dont get to victimize him because of it.
