Mya's connection was through her label who was producing and releasing the soundtrack. Jimmy Iovine fought for her to be included because he thought it would give her more exposure. Plus she was doing a bunch of soundtracks anyway.

Tim & Miss allegedly was beefing with Barry over money issues so they boycotted from participating for the 3rd album recording sessions until it was resolved and they didn't want to go to Australia to record either b/c they had their own busy careers too.
