i think Jazmine was actually a fair comparison and i def wouldn't be mad if someone chose her over GHan

i don't agree BUT i wouldn't be mad at all.

there's def been plenty of songs when i got fucking chills listening to her

i still havent fully recovered from first hearing "after the hurricane". i had heard so much about her voice and didn't get the hype til i heard that track. like this gorl is ANOINTED . and i rarely use that word. i so wasn't surprised to later see clips of her KILLING it vocally as a child.

those other names brought up were so annoyingly cliche. "Aretha! Patti!"

I would say Jazmine might be a better or at the very least on par singer with Brandy, but I still will always prefer Brandy's voice and what she does with it.
Also, as far as "Vocal Bible"... IDK if it's too early but ppl are not listing Jazmine's name that often as an influence on their sound.
I know that dude on the podcasts is a fellow Aries King and Jazmine is too
But yea, she's the Vocal Encyclopedia or something

I don't know why people make this a big deal.I never heard the term before until it was regarding Brandy. So she is the VB.That doesn't mean she's the best.Even she admits to her limitations.

When Jazmine Sullivan releases 7+ masterpiece albums I'll think about a comparison but it's Brandy for me all day. Like, this woman's voice has been around for decades at this point. She has a young voice and it keeps growing and changing. No comparison to me... oh and I love Jazmine btw. Think she's phenomenal and in her on lane but Brandy is too far along her road to be compared to anyone!  :blessed:

I think people are getting it twisted, the title, at least to me, doesn't mean Brandy is the best singer of all time (although she def one of the best in the last 30 years imo).

It means she is the best at what she does and has influenced many. Why is that so hard for people to understand? :dead:

And i hate the smugness people have when they disagree.

"BRANDY!? HUH??? Could never" meanwhile they're fave has literaly been biting her vocal style for the last 10 years.

because they love that term and it sounds very GRAND and they don't like Brandy enough to associate her with such a big title. Low key some are jealous that they didn't think of that name for their favorite artist first.
Also, ppl idolize and worship Whitney, Mariah and Michael and they have to be given ALL the praise

I shy away from saying anyone can sing better than Brandy. Maybe it's just the Stan in me.

i think it all depends on how much value one holds in "who sings better". there are plenty of people out there who can BLOW houses down and are turning it tf out every SUnday at Bethesda Baptist, but that doesn't mean they'd make an amazing unique ARTIST.

and it's worth noting that when many people reference who's the better singer, it's usually very technical and it adheres to very dated (IMO) measurements - such as range. so when context is considered, i can understand a conclusion .....although i don't agree. as long as they're not trying it and saying Lumidee can run circles around GHan in any way.

for me artistry is king. specifically art that is made with the voice , when using it as an instrument.

i'd actually say range is probably the biggest thing many people think about when they think "better singer" .

it's a very simple thought process and doesn't take into account a lot of important nuance. but this is why GHan is an artist's artist...and she is the vocal bible of the industry. cuz if you KNOW, you KNOW what's what.

to me it's way more of a high compliment when the gorls who REALLY have EARS for everything saying "this bitch is TEA."

sdjnjdnfjnfsjnsnjdnsdnsjnsjnjn

and that's why some of the gorls stay mad with the vocal bible mess, cuz they know that.

:scrumptious:

Yeah it depends on what type of singer you like.
Jazz is an excellent singer.

Nippy is the supreme 1a because she sounded like chocolate when she opened her mouth
Rayana to me is 1b because whew the way that lady uses her voice is untouched. Just hate she been coating it with unnecessary effects
Stripped down Brandy is the best because u can really get into how she molds her voice to lyrics and beats. I have never heard anyone do that outside of MJ
Vocal versatility to me is a skill bc even the most great singers can't interpret lyrics and sounds
I need to hear some vocal changes throughout a song to get in. Don't just sing the song the same for 4 minutes. Bring them lyrics to life
Focus is vocal masterpiece but the gorls wouldn't get it bc Rayana wasn't loud on it

Yeah. Bran is my Queen, but I can def see someone choosing Jaz before Bran.

They are both AMAZING singers, but what one of them lacks, the other is stronger.

If you put them both on a stage and hand them both a mic, Jaz is gonna show Bran UP. Simply because Bran lacks confidence ( as we can see considering her mic has been OFF on all of her live performances for over a decade now) and she plays it safe as safe can be. But put them both in the STUDIO, Bran is gonna teach Jazzy a few things.

I prefer Jazzy live over her studio recordings because the magic gets a lil lost with all of the polishing that is done. Where Bran creates ART in the studio

Both Queens are great and can share the title for all I care

Jazmine doesn't have the lightness in her tone to make her sound more lush and agile. So her voice really only suits R&B/Gospel.

Brandy has the versatility to really do it all. The smaller size of her voice works in her favor but she can also thicken it when needed to give Soul and Gospel if she wants.

I watched the full interview. Sean defended Brandy down.
Phil showed his position which comes down to preference which is cool. It is just like everyone has a tone preference.
Many gorls have always put the lighter vocal gorls over there and the belters higher.
While some of us enjoy both.
Like smooth criminal isolated vocals show MJ is as much as a vocal genius as kings Donnie & Luther. His isolated vocals also shows that Brandy is 50% his child while 40% Kim and 10% nippy.

Brandy can give what the gorls seek. Which many don't know. Even on YouTube for her I wanna be down acapella some of the comments were shocked she sounds like that without the music.
When silent used to post her warmups the gorls were gagged that she does have a meaty voice.

Brandy is a very unique singer bc she can give baby Kwee Karen while giving a Smooth Criminal vocal masterclass with riding that beat and lyrics

I agree.

GHan really blends her tea into different genres effortlessly and I think it's because she has diverse influences/tastes in music.

Kwee loves her Whitney but she also dabbles in Enya and Coldplay

Her relatively eclectic appreciation for music and how she's able to soak it up and spit out in her OWN way just speaks more to why she's the ultimate vocal artist

You def can hear the multiple influences PEAKING out when GHan sings - especially when she switches lanes

Quote from: RobLeeMusic88 on March 26, 2026, 11:35:34 AMWhen Jazmine Sullivan releases 7+ masterpiece albums I'll think about a comparison but it's Brandy for me all day. Like, this woman's voice has been around for decades at this point. She has a young voice and it keeps growing and changing. No comparison to me... oh and I love Jazmine btw. Think she's phenomenal and in her on lane but Brandy is too far along her road to be compared to anyone!  :blessed:
7? Brandy has only released 5 masterpiece albums. Self titled, NSN, FM, Afro, and Human. Those are the only albums that matter. Those other two not so much. Especially B7.

This bullshit here won't help your case.
