Jojo we paying to hear live vocals. If a fan wants to hear a recording we could just press play. This is why Whitney was 1 of 1, a true vocalist. I didn't know about the auto tune mics until this year. They sound a mess. Singers used to hate being put into the studio singer category and now all of em don't care. This is a big topic bts clearly bc Fanny let it be known not too long ago that her mic is always on.

I think a great singer can shake off any mistakes and win ppl over.
Quiet as it's kept Whitney's voice has cracked in multiple live performances even in her prime years and ppl barely ever mention it because they know she's still "The Voice"
Usher has had some slip ups too and he's still King, and still sings live even on uptempo songs while dancing.
Ppl might make jokes online about vocal mistakes but ppl with sense don't take it too seriously and will still support an artist who sings live even through any mistakes

it's worth noting that your examples reference artists who are/were already established and came up in an era where social media virality wasn't a factor. i think jojo is referring to artists coming up in this current internet/tech era

Singers are going viral more for lipping. The public can tell lipping more than ever. For instance, Ppl commented that at the usher and Chris tour only usher's mic is on. YouTube is filled of highly watched videos of singers lipping.
A factor of them lipping is not to go viral but it is also laziness and everybody can't do it, bc as Avery Wilson noted in his comment live singing is a dying or losing art form. Singers need to start singing again though because the live singer rightfully are def putting them as beneath them. Someone mentioned Kelly Clarkson in Vegas tells her audience her mic is on. Syleena Johnson said her mic is always on. If Ron Isley and em' can still sing live no reason that it should be only like 10 singers 60 and under "with a name" willing to sing live
I don't care really but perfect is boring.Then, when you're watching an artist and already know how every note and run will sound, there's nothing to get me excited for the next time.
I think an artist would be more embarrassed if the missed a cue and got caught lipping.
One thing I will give grace to is for touring. If you have a long tour with multiple dates and hard songs to sing it can be damaging to your voice to sing the entire show live
So if the artist lips certain uptempo songs I don't mind, there can just be an ENTIRE lipped show though. At least sing the ballads 100% live

Sounds like her critic is more for the audience than the singers who use the tactics. So I'm not really understanding why people are taking it as a jab or moment of reflection for singers.
There is no grace. Anyone can sit behind a keyboard and say what someone should be doing. But very few understand the pressure that comes with it. While I'm not an advocate for the new tools, I'm not going to act like I understand what that pressure is and dismiss it for those who feel it.
Some singers let the chips fall where they may, and others are perfectionist. It's all subjective at the end of the day.
