Title: I still fume over how Afrodisiac was handled
Post by: DraeDrizzl3 on March 27, 2016, 11:54:28 PM

Like how the fuck wasn't Afrodisiac the lead single? They could've saved the Kanye single for later or just left TAOL as an album track.
:udontlookok:

And why wouldn't they release I Tried second? That would had been her damn Cry Me a River

:rudone:

If they wanted to hop on the Usher bandwagon, why not have them do the song over with a video?

I think they put out TAOL cuz Kanye was hot as fuck ATM.
I do think he brought attention to the song.

We love Afrodisiac but a 1st single? I dunno.

most people don't know what an aphrodisiac is :dead: especially younger gorls

Now that was tragic as well but with Afro, I just didn't see the need to make sure TAOL was the lead single. Full Moon (album and singles) did just fine. Why would they think that she needed his fucking feature

Do you guys really think Afrodisiac (single) would've caught on? I can't really imagine it being a hit...

The only other songs I could imagine being hits are Where You Wanna Be and I Tried.

I don't see it for Afro as a first single, as much as I luv it.

I think they did what was logical and appropriate for an artist returning after a 4 year break. Get a relevant rapper on the mess and PUSH it owt there.

Plus I'm sure they paid major coin for Kanye to spit on TAOL. I doubt they were just gonna include that as a bonus track :dead:

She should have went with her original plan and chose Black Pepper as the first single.
Kanye should have been scrapped.

Full Moon & Afrodisiac could have been her biggest eras.

It was a 2 year break. And they did what they thought was logical. It just sucks that they fucked over the sound Bran and Tim were tryna put out there.

No shade, but the QUALITY of Kanye's tracks >>> Tim's

The fans loved Afrodisiac and Tim, but I feel like the general public would've really caught on if Ye' produced the entire album.

I still get mad myself

1st single - Talk About Our Love
2nd single - Where You Wanna Be (T.I) was hot at that moment too urban radio would've gave it more buzz.

3rd Single - I Tried or Finally

I can definitely agree that I tried shoulda been a single tho.  I don't understand how brandy has these STRONG songs on every album and doesn't utilize them.  Sorry but lowkey Full moon didn't have to be a single or couldve atleast came later (which means never since there were only 2 lolz). There were so many other songs that begged releasing before that.

I've moved on from the shoulda, woulda, couldas for the most part.

I just get frustrated as a fan that there is a 99% chance we will never hear "Black Pepper".

Like, how do you go from it being the lead single, in the dance studio with Frank Gatson, working on the choreography for the video, to nobody having it or even remembering what it sounds like.  :hmph:

I honestly thought most the choices on Afro musically were great. Aside from swapping out a few tracks for others here and there and cleaning up the mixes a bit, the album and singles worked as they were. What frustrates me most about Afro is the way the whole era was handled. The album stood apart from anything else in R&B and pop at the time, but they had Brandy out there like some rookie wannabe J-Lo.

I think it was her manager at the time.  He managed J Lo so successfully he thought that taking off your clothes and doing a lip synch dance mess was supposed to be the image for all female celebrities.

Mess I love Full Moo'!

She shoulda released Anybody,WAU, & WYTM tbqfhwy maybe even I Thought

Ever since FM (with the exception of 2/11), Brandy has released singles that have gone against what was on radio at the time. To me it has been a gift and a curse. A gift in a sense that people revere her for her sounds. A curse because after her singles have run their course at radio, they get very little play at radio years later.

AFRO was a mess visually - videos, photos, hair, wardrobe, performance. All of it was a hot mess. I don't know what kind of mental anguish she was going through, but it was not the business.

She coulda rode both FM and AFRO out with 4 to 5 singles and the songs would have caught on at radio. Where U Wanna Be was her urban/quiet storm hit just waiting to happen. I didn't see "I Tried" making an impact without a strong visual.

Followed by "WIS2U" THEN "TAOL" with the 4the single being "Necessary" to conclude the Era. It could've been huge for her

Ok but can we talk about Human's sabotaging?

I mean Afro and Two 'Lev were doomed on arrival. Afro had no mainstream hits and I think Urban was at its lowest point in 2012. Human, however had some potential hits on it.

Nah Human never really impressed me.. Not enough single choices. Everyone was stanning for Piano Man but I never really got into that song.

Afro actually had some singles that were quite popular overseas. I think Talk about our love was a success here in Holland. Afro is still an amazing album. Two eleven also had some nice singles on there, but the way that they promoted (or didn't promote it) was horrible.

As much as I try to let this topic go as there's nothin we can do now but when I get into FM, Afro or even 2/11 i just FUME on how it was mismanaged...

But for Afro thou, I think the singles should've been:
1. WIS2U + a proper Usher duet
2. I Tried
3. Double Single - WYWB (feat. T.I.) (Main) & Come As U Are (Clubs)
4. Either Should I Go, Necessary or Focus (To wrap the era)

But all the songs needed EPIC visuals.. This was a album where the visuals had to sell the song in order to connect to the general public and take Bran to new heights..

For FM though I agree that the title track should've came later or maybe the 3rd single while she had Sy'rai... It's such a classic/timeless song so it would've did decent without Bran promoting it...
1. WAU
2. I Thought or All In Me
3. Full Moon
4. Nothing or WYTM

2/11 the single choices were too easy so I don't even wanna bother smfh...

Why are u bringing up rihanna :uhh:
Actually why tf are u even quoting me? The song is corny AF and that's my opinion. If u choose to think otherwise, then u can do so.  Rihanna has 14 #1 hits and countless others so her single choices aren't in question

I dont see how u can go up for that with some of the mess she has released.  But sit up here and say the song and title track from o e of her most critically acclaimed albums

Is bad

I cant
It doesn't matter what u think about who i go up for.  I don't see how u do ANY of the shit u do but ur entitled to do wtf u want.  I think the song is uber fckn corny and IM entitled to that.  U can think whatever tf u wanna think,  idgaf and i promise i wont quote u debating it. Really don't know why u insist on quoting me tbfh

Dont u talk to me like this vonc
Its very rude
