i mean u can only really stabilize it and the only way for a person to do that is come from a supporting family or a family with money. Otherwise you're fucked for life, esp if the meds ain't coming through.

There's so many messed up things going on with our society because we treat mentally ill like they're unworthy, a joke and we criminalize them, and make shit worse for them with our judgement. We misdiagnose children with stuff they don't even have just so they can get services, prisons are becoming the new asylums/mental homes, even if you aren't mentally ill prisons make people of the lowest to highest offenses mental, we throw them back on the street with no resources just to bring em back to the prisons, making commodities out of them and hospitals, shelters, drug companies are phony.

You raised some great points and I definitely agree about prison system. Its messed up. I never really paid attention to peoples perspective of mentally ill people until I was diagnosed. The reaction was def all the things u listed and they also think ppl with the disorder don't want to work and are assholes because they can't carry a conversation with ppl

Also people treat mentally ill like we're a treat to society. I think society is the reason why so many mentally ill ljust give up and kill themselves. No one is understanding and a lot ppl are in my case alone. I'm thankful Obamacare has given so many a gateway to drugs that will help or therapist. But so many still need help. My whole outlook on homeless changed when I was diagnosed. I think so many homeless people are abandoned by families who don't have resources (like u said). Just wish our society focused on mentally illness and not gun control.

Absolutely. I think people who don't experience or aren't familiar mental illness are quick to give a "no" because they have a misunderstood view on what mental illness is.

Some conditions are more severe than others. But a mild condition can be overcome. Generalized Anxiety, Manic Depression these are considered mental illnesses and can be cured with a healthy lifestyle and cognitive therapy.

It really just depends on the diagnosis.

I think as long as you don't let the mental illness over take you and let it live your life for you... You can push through.

Yes and no.

Less severe mental illnesses like, say, anxiety can be alleviated through plain old EXPOSURE to what it is one is afraid of, & the symptoms of depression can be alleviated through physical exercise, meditation, various natural tools (CBT, for example).

So yes, there is the opportunity to recover.

More severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, psychosis... I don't think it is possible to be totally cured of these genuine brain abnormalities. These are primarily treated with medication, whereas not everyone with anxiety or depression need to utilize medication.

The scariest part of it all is analyzing the system we're currently in, where the mentally ill do not have effective care & access to sustainable treatment. Meanwhile, doctors are prescribing opioid medications to pain & post-surgery patients which are easily addictive, which is causing this current addiction crisis.

If these opiate medications are changing the wiring of the brain, & addiction is a disease (physical and/or mental illness), isn't this all just exacerbating the core issue at hand?

Anyway, I'm starting to meander, but it's worth thinking about. The effects of drugs themselves on mental illness are quite interesting, considering each drug affects each one of us differently.

In fact, if you have the genetic component for something like schizophrenia, the use of marijuana can actually exacerbate its dormancy.  :plzstop:

It's a lot to think about. Makes me want to pick up a crack pipe just thinking about it.  :plzstop:

Gorl please. You just like to start shit and then use the whole "mental issues" as a crutch. If you have mental health issues step away from BSource and work on them. Stop trying to be a controversial, messy Queen to try to fit in.
