QuoteHistory of Benin and Togo
Togo and Benin lie between the larger West African countries of Ghana and Nigeria. Not much is known of the area?s early history, though many groups were well established before Portuguese traders arrived in the late 15th century. The countries? southern shores fell along the so-called ?Slave Coast,? one of the top sources of slaves to the New World. Much of modern-day Benin was once part of the powerful Kingdom of Dahomey (1600?1900). The French defeated Dahomey in a series of wars between 1890 and 1894. In 1960, both Benin and Togo declared independence--the two nations are now known as the Republic of Benin and the Togolese Republic.

Hmmm... very interesting. I wonder why there isn't much known about the early history of the area? The fact that it falls along a "slave coast" could be where the 25% European comes from.

Their music and movies SLAY, so do their fashions and their work ethic
They have a 'no matter what it takes' approach to get what they want and that mostly includes fraud and corruption :dead:
The rivalry stems from Ghanaians migrating to Nigeria and vice versa and the Nigerian Goverment rounding them all up and kicking them out of the country :uhh:

OK so I couldn't wait to double check but it does appear that many AA's return Benin/Togo as a top result. it's not as uncommon as an AA returning SE Bantu, Mali, etc. as a top result.
but still, it's not nearly as common as Ivory/Ghost, Nigeria, and Cameroon as top results.
Still something worth looking into a bit.
I've seen a lot of people on YouTube get Benin/Togo in their results, so I'm not surprised.

I wouldn't be too quick to call anyone a liar yet. A lot of North American Indian tribes are forbidden from offering their samples to these types of companies by tribe leaders. Yes DNA didn't confirm any Native tea but this is where you'd turn to research. Ask them questions, do they know the names of these Native relatives? Where did these Native relatives live?
Now if they can supply you this information, and allow you to research and confirm if these relatives had Native names and/or lived in Native settlement areas, great.
If they give you a "I dunno, we're part Native tho! LMAO! kno that much :justabit:  " mess owt, then that's another story obviously.
Wait
Nigeria 1%
Africa South-Central Hunter-Gatherers < 1%
Mali < 1%
What does this mean?
Quote from: Herbie's Podcast on May 03, 2016, 04:58:52 PM
Natives are very spiritual. And honestly you have opportunistic crackers out here looking for an NA connection just to get coin from their tribes. With no interest in learning about them.
It's a protective financial and spiritual measure they take.
I know and have the names of my ancestors but I wouldn't pursue tribal affiliation . Honestly people are natives as glamorous when many of them live in poverty... And need those funds allocated to their tribes.
I wouldn't dare even fill out an application because at the end of the day I had the benefit of the AA experience my entire life .. If u can call it that. There's people who really need those funds and assistance. Who are more than just part Native . I'm not one of them
That makes sense. It's crazy how so many people go around claiming NA blood.
Omgggggggg I'm so excited :ohwow: :ohwow: :ohwow: :flamebroiled:

I skipped over the European part of my ancestry report because I assumed it was slave mess. And honestly even though my grandmother kept asking me to check her dads side I didn't make it priority.
but it turns out that his side is what people see most in me. Those Haitian roots. And the free people of color who migrated from Haiti Freely mixed with other races upon their arrival. Which developed the Melungeon identity. So not ALL non AfricAn DNA is from Massah bending over a slave.
However I would still be cautious in celebrating it until the story is known.
