Is it racist? For him to even ask me for some baggy pants from back in the day, for them to have this fckn party themed after "Gangsta's Paradise"...
Am I trippin or is he trying it?
:hmph: :bvy:
I'm crying
Ignorant but harmless IMO
nnnnn He is like the theme is "Gangster's Paradise", do you have some hip hop/RnB type clothes I can borrow?
I am literally confused on whether to clap
:plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop:
that is very racists and Id let em know
Well he didn't flat out say BLACK, but I just felt uneasy. 3 years ago I would not have minded, but now it just sounds strange as hell. Not them white students perching in NWA outfits for a weekend drunken night mess out.
A hip hop themed party would be cute, but if they plan on painting themselves in blackface and perching with 40 ounces and watermelon...

He assumes you have clothes that associate with that culture.
We have created a culture and people see and know that.
It's ignorant for him to assume but at the same time it's kind of harmless. If he had ill intent he wouldn't have asked you in that way.
I'd jokingly say something like " I'm mad you assumed I have Gangsta clothes! Lol" tho
Lmao I don't know why i find this so funny!
I'd tell her to fuck off
He is saying it is more of retro/back to 2004 mess owt. You know when Ja Rule and Nelly ruled the radio or whatever...
I feel mad I gave him a shady response, but I just coudn't help but take offense.
:plzstop: :plzstop:

Is he calling you late?

No he is asking for old clothes, explicitly from that time.
He's half Iraqi, does he get a pass?
You need to let him know not all blacks are ex members of G-unit

it's not racist, just ignorant as fuck. and close minded. he's only basing his perception on what he sees on TV and in much of Black culture. educate him on the fact that not all Black people adorn themselves in "hip hop clothes".
He did not say black. But my thing is the hip hop clothes, the gangsta rap style etc. came from a reality of struggle, poverty and discrimination. And these privileged white Euro gurs just dress up like this for kiis and drinks without knowing or appreciating the context of the culture.

Now if he was 13 and just mimicking his fave okay. But these are all academic and intellectual 20 somethings, it is just distasteful IMO. But on the other hand the whole style was mainstream and crossed over the world during that time, so for the throwback factor he has a point.
Borrow ur clothes? :udontlookok:

it's extremely ignorant.
and it's interesting cause "hip hop clothes/style" has evolved throughout the years.
You should be offended that he asked YOU for ghetto clothes tho
He's been in town only for 2 years, I am his only black friend here.

Judging all these justifications, you don't seem to be that bothered by it.
Maybe they saw what you wore on German Idol and they're assuming you still have something like that?
Right!? :uhh:
Gorl just give fish out that fubu shirt and call it a day

On the one hand, the thought weirds me out on the other hand it is kind of a retro 2000's party

well what do u expect, they're white.
But this goes back to me telling you why I don't smile with glee when people say "oh wow American Blacks are so cool! :ohwow:" ... because 9 times out of 10 those words don't come out of genuine respect, it comes from how well we entertain them.
maybe those compliments would impress me if the real world were nothing but a big high school. but its not
Well African-American culture still is something very formidable and great to be proud of. Regardless of how whites may or may not perceive it.
Yeah I'll toss him some 2006 hoodies, I guess.
If he's this academia minded intellectual you say he is then he should know a wee bit more about hip hoo culture than baggy jeans and timbs.
But like I said before, a headnod to the early 2000s hip hop aesthetic is cute but if they plan on going full blown Stormfront with this mess...

Him asking you for 'gangster' clothes is extremely shady and I'm surprised you didn't clock it tbh. I would have gotten him together right on the spot and probably would have ditched him as a friend soon after. :uhh:
But mess on Malc'
And tbh him being half Iraqi makes it even shadier fffvvccxcxj
:uhh:
Ask him for a fcking burqua and if he had something to do with 9/11

White fraternities in the south have these types of parties all the time. They dress up in black face and baggy clothes. Then one of them gets a rope and puts it around his neck like someone's going to hang him. And they all take pictures of it.
At least, that's what kind of party it sounds like your friend may be attending...
Interesting...

He was not being shady. He is not fashionable himself, and actually liked that kind of music. We have a different dynamic. He is straight also and oblivious to what most consider "shade". He knows I meet all these rappers and R&B singers and he also knows every male wore that shit 5-10 years ago.

My overseas friends wouldn't say anything like that. The fact that you felt the need to thread it speaks volumes. He probably says mess to you all the time and you take it.
