It's a tense time for the creative team behind the award-winning Broadway musical Chicago - rehearsals with Rumer Willis have not gone well.
The 26-year-old daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore is set to make her Broadway debut when she takes over the role of Roxie Hart in the long-running Broadway musical Chicago starting in mid-August.
Sources close to the show tell Daily Mail Online that the reigning Dancing with the Stars winner has really struggled with learning lines, musical numbers and choreography for the show.
But instead of staying in New York City for extended rehearsals -
'Everyone is panicking. Rumer was really overwhelmed with the complexity of the role and the amount of material she was supposed to retain in a short time.
'If her rehearsals were any indication of things to come, they're not sure she'll be ready for opening night,' a show insider reveals to Daily Mail Online exclusively.
Fresh off of winning Season 20 of ABC's Dancing with the Stars, casting executives thought Willis would be an ideal choice to follow Grammy-winner Brandy Norwood in the role of Roxie Hart.
Norwood, who made her debut on the Great White Way in the role on April 28, was initially scheduled for an eight-week limited engagement and then extended her run through August.
'Producers for the show have asked Brandy would she consider a second extension in case Rumer can't cut it in time. Brandy had strong box office numbers during her run and they can't afford to lose that momentum going into the back to school season if Rumer isn't ready,' the source confided
Those involved in the production say that Willis seemed 'disconnected from the process' during her practice sessions.
'Instead of embracing the sexiness of the role and embodying the persona of Roxie, she wore sweatpants and a sweatshirt to rehearsals and just couldn't remember much of anything. She was on book the entire time,' the source offered.
After a week of rehearsals, Willis decided to fly back to Los Angeles instead of staying in New York to learn her material. She's scheduled to return to the Big Apple just six days before her stage debut.

Book Bran
Amazing :indiaarie:
I have mixed feelings about this.
Hmmmm
As long as it does slow down the release of new music. :udontlookok:
on one hand i wouldnt mind cause it would give me a chance to see it and another hand no cause i KNOW the music would be delayed.. mixtape push back album push back etc
This could be good or bad. But the good thing is that the ball is in her court.
This is a good look for Bran. I'm excited.
The ones who have mixed feelings or don't want this - have you seen the show live?
I think that makes a difference on your feelings about this.
The comments I was hearing from the crowd were incredible.
Brandy has really gained a new respect within the industry and the public in general.
I think doing this will cement her status even further.
She'd be able to book major roles for life.
Another short run wouldn't hurt.
;)
I wouldn't mind another short run either. That means I could go see her again!

I have not seen the show.
I'm happy about what it has done for Brandy,
but if it's going to delay the music then I'm ready for it to be over.
No shade.

Honestly if I didn't see the show live I'd feel the same way. Cause essentially it's like it's been crickets. I'd be uh ok where's the music?
Seeing it is what helps u realize that's where she belongs. At least for now. She is slaying that stage from left to right. I wouldn't feel this way otherwise.
I don't know if anyone else understand what I'm saying?
This doesn't sound true.. They are already blasting Rumors pics all over Times Square I heard...
Brandy IS Roxie . Some people can't be replaced .

No I haven't seen it. My bf and I got to NY that Friday before the BET awards and we missed the show that day and we left before she came back. I WAS PISSED. Oh wassup I'm Eric

lets catch a flight together hun take NYC by storm a bit :supluv:
She has 'Zoe' to focus on & film in LA.
I'm sure she has a set filming schedule for that & her table reads are very soon.
'Chicago' was amazing whilst it lasted, but she has music & TV to focus on. And Hopefully 'The Wiz'.
Oh yea.
Of course it won't be the same without her but this was just a stepping stone for more greater things for her. She has other things to focus on. She can't drop them for no Roxie business

bf is code for best friend right?

Ok bent!
I see you bro!
This would be amazing. Brandy thoroughly enjoys playing Roxie. I'm happy for her.
Oh and

Bran said herself it's time.....and I agree.
As much as I love what this role has done for her, she did her part. Let's move on. TBH i don't think Bran can committ to more time because she's already scheduled her next steps for Zoe Moon. She starts table reads in a few days for Zoe. Plus other things probably scheduled between studio time, etc. Also keep in mind she IS signed to a label. Who knows what kind of timeline they have in place.
Love you Bran and loved you as Roxie (yes I saw it), but...NEXT!
Y'all must not want 'Zoe' or the music. :uhh:
Sis can't keep flying back & forth from LA & NYC.
And her going back home is an opportunity for her to book more film roles.

!!!! She still has a child
And yes, she GAVE as Roxie.
I went in May & got my absolute life. But...it's time.
Doubt it. I think BET is on a deadline for stuff
She has to get to work on Zoe moon
But it is cute that want to keep Bran so that coin can keep coming in.
I kinda wanna watch the next girl take over
What a Trainwreck that'll be
Idk what's going on but all that talk about being ready to get back to LA ... I hope that's the case. Ready for this music and everything that comes with it
She should do it!
Is not up to us, is up to bran if she want to conintue playing roxie or release her new music and move forward. As a Stan I'm going to support bran on whatever she want to do as long she happy
That's nice hon

I think that's a given. We all will support regardless. We are just speaking on our opinion and what we individually would like to see or what we prefer. Like every other day on Bsource.
Love what playing Roxie has done for Brandy, but I would prefer she move on to Zoe Moon and her album. Brandy is booked. Unless they offer up some unprecedented coins.
I Doubt she would do it at this time because she has to film Zoe and release the EP.. But it's amazing and is great publicity that they want Bran to extend her stay AGAIN! That says ALOT!!!

I LOVE that she was booking those tickets.
this sounds like a publicity stunt, to get people talking about the musical after Brandy's departure, with the producers creating some extra attention with the new girl.
I just dont see a real producer or someone inside the production leaking this info not knowing that it could hurt this girl's debut. This was intentional.
Whatever she wants I support

i kinda agree
so when she comes out slaying
it's like "oh wow! barely made it! just in time!"
Brandy left NY today, and she starts table reads for Zoe Ever After this week. I doubt she'll come back. She needs to focus on what's next. She was really amazing in the show though. No one is exaggerating when they say they are dreaming watching her.
It's time to move on

I mean if y'all thought 'Two Eleven' performances were a STEP in the right direction, her showmanship game now & forever be strong because of Broadway. Like, I'm so ready for THE tour.
Nice but Brandy is over it I believe

Hmmmm
could be cute for Bran but i it better not last a couple of months tho! i need her in the studio.
if Brandy really wanted to extend, Chicago producers would have extended her much more than Aug 2. Bran and team chose that date because thats problably as much as she could do with her agenda (Zoe, Empire and more).
