Lord jesus.........
But yea, im watching. Im DVRing tho. I gotta be in the mood for stuff like this
I want to watch to support, but I'm getting tired of seeing movies about slavery.
I know it's a very REAL part of our history, but I think it's time to start telling
other parts too. The only films we ever see are about slavery & civil rights.
I appreciate them for telling the story, but there's so much more to our history.

I mean respect to those actors and actress and especially our ancestors who had the strength to ensure we would be here today.
But at the same time the shade of it all is the title itself.
Roots!
Like this is where it starts. Naw Bruh, stop tryna brainwash us.

Roots is not just some movie about slavery tho imo. Now that the obligatory slave movie is put out annually doesn't make these stories any less necessary. I personally have a younger brother who i feel is very detached from this stuff and i feel like could benefit from roots. Roots was something we kinda got together and watched when i was younger. Like it was a significant moment in time. I honestly don't know if he's had that. Roots was always more of a documentary in my mind. There will never come a time that this story isn't necessary. But yes, tell others as well
Its called roots because it's alex haley's family history. He went and sought out his story, so these were very much so his roots. Lemme just be quiet..........
I can't watch this . It's too depressing !!!!
Yeah we all have our own opinions on the matter.
I agree that this generation needs to be educated on this issue though, so I see your point with that.

And I think that's my whole issue with it all.
"How do you walk away feeling?"
I'd be completely fine with Hollywood and film studios doing this if they allowed other types of films to get recognition and praise (because I think knowing this part of our history is very important as well) but they don't.
They like the whole civil rights and slave thing for us.
This is what we get awarded to do.
We had such a beautiful history before this.
So if you wanna go to the "roots" , then let's go all the way back ya know?
I just can't clap for the same depressing mess being rebooted over and over. Because that's subconsciously the message they put in our minds. That we were less than, and have overcame a lot but still have a ways to go. And it causes us to view whites a certain way.
How amazing would it have been if Movies like Gods of Egypt or something had an all black or minority cast? For one it would be more accurate, but it would also give this generation some sense of pride in who we are.
Who takes pride in being a slave? I mean it was an unfortunate event that worked out for the good and gives us some Sense of empowerment, but we were so much greater than this :uhh:
This is why I am SO glad they're making that Black Panther Marvel movie.
Seems like we're taking steps in the right direction..

finally
I met the guy who plays Kunta once
He's British and fine as hell
I recorded it. I wasn't in the mood earlier
The issue I have with these kinda films are that they don't tell the whole story. Plus they always in some wayale the White man the Savior.
Also let's be clear, these TV shows and films are definitely released for reconditioning. A lot of people can't understand that so I won't go into further detail but white people are making these just for education and entertainment.
I watched it and was engaged the entire time. I was fuming on a lot of parts.
And yea, the guy playing Kunta is GORGEOUS!
