OK. So it's definitely not Bran, but let's hope they meet & cast her as Glinda. :'(

QuoteTomorrow (Wednesday) on the Today Show @ 8:15 am, we will introduce the world to the 18 year old discovery for Dorothy in our Wiz Live. Don't miss her. Tune in or TiVo it. (Pictured here is our director & choreographer Kenny Leon & Fatima Robinson.) And remember The Wiz Live will be televised by NBC on Dec 3rd. So far we have Queen Latifah, Mary J Blige and Stephanie Mills. Watch for a bunch of announcements in the coming week(s) for the remainder of our starry cast.
David Alan Grier has been announced as The Cowardly Lion.
QuoteDavid Alan Grier has the courage to explore live TV.
The comedian and three-time Tony Award nominee has joined NBC?s production of ?The Wiz Live!.? He?ll play the Cowardly Lion, the famously timid friend of the lost Dorothy who accompanies her down the Yellow Brick Road in the hopes that their journey will lead him to find some courage.
Grier broke out via Fox?s 1990s sketch show ?In Living Color.? His TV credits also include ?Crank Yankers? and ?Happy Endings.? His stage credits include a co-starring role in the original Broadway production of ?Dreamgirls? and his film credits include ?A Soldier?s Story? with Howard E. Rollins and Denzel Washington and ?Jumanji? with Robin Williams. He will soon appear on the NBC sitcom ?The Carmichael Show,? which premieres Aug. 26.
?The Wiz Live!? is adapted from L. Frank Baum?s ?The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,? with a book by William F. Brown and music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls. It is produced by Universal Television in association with Cirque Du Soleil Theatrical. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who worked with NBC on other live musical specials ?The Sound of Music? and ?Peter Pan,? are exec producing. Kenny Leon serves as stage director and Matthew Diamond as TV director. Harvey Fierstein is providing new written material. The cast also includes Stephanie Mills, who starred in the original Broadway version of the musical, as well as Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige.
?The Wiz Live!? premieres Dec. 3 on NBC.
Why are they remaking this? THe sound of music one was awful.
If it ain't Brandy I don't think anyone really cares.
I heard it's Naturi Naughton.
Y'all keep in mind Bran said she never wanted to be Dorothy for NBC, but on Broadway.
The goal is to have her be Glinda on NBC. She said she'd audition for it a whilst back.
David Alan Grier as the Lion...tha fuck?

Brandy auditioned for Glinda?
Lets move on to the music
Oh okay so Bran did ask to audition for either "Can I audition for Dorothy? Glinda?" she asked, laughing."
I feel like they'll throw Glinda's role to someone like Alicia Keys....since she's the "good witch" they'll probably feel like a light skinned person would fit the role perfectly. You know how society thinks

They could have atleast picked a gur that can carry a chune a bit....this High School Musical vocal....very un-soulful.
Y'all are cracking on David Alan Grier, but he did do Broadway and is a multiple Tony nominated actor. Plus he was in the original production of "Dreamgirls" He actually can sing whether y'all know it or not. That's the true tea of it all.

She seems like a nice person, but she doesnt look like a young girl to play this role.
I mean... I have no idea, but how old is Dorothy supposed to be in the musical? 14-15 or older? anyone knows?
I think they were looking for someone young, but I do believe 14 or 15 is how old Dorothy is supposed to be.

I'm rooting for this to be successful. They need Usher as the scarecrow. I think DAG is perfectly cast as the lion. I think the Dorothy they picked is right on target.
I think they picked the right girl.
And why are y'all sleep on David Alan? :uhh:
He's a Yale Drama School grad, a Tony nominee & was in the Tony Award winning revival of 'Porgy & Bess' just three years ago.
I can't say it enough. Bran really needs to be a part of this. :'(
