I don't think I've ever really heard her sing like this before. Wow!

The dance break in the video is iconic.

I read that when Mike heard her parts, he went back in the studio. I can't tAke him thinking she was gon coo on this. She kinda outdid him, honestly.

Absolutely not. :uhh: MJ def. did bring out the best in her though. One of the best Pop records.
QuoteWhen Michael went into the studio, the idea was that he was going to sing it first and then Janet would go in and sing after him,? Jam recalled. ?So Janet?s sitting there, me and Terry are sitting there, and Michael goes in. Before he sings, he?s just real calm and quiet, 'Can you turn my headphones up a little bit?' Then all of a sudden the music comes on and he starts dancing around the room, hitting all his signature moves. When it was over, I swear to God, it was just silence in the room. He said, 'How was that?' We?re like, 'Yeah, that sounded really good.'? This caused a bit of problem for Janet who had planned to follow him into the booth to record her vocals. Instead she decided she'd do her vocal later in Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis' Minneapolis studio, away from her brother. ?So we go to Minneapolis with Janet, where she does a great job on her vocal,? Jam continued. ?We send it to Michael, he goes, 'Wow, Janet sounds great. Where did she record that vocal?' I said it was in Minneapolis. 'I?m coming to Minneapolis.' So Michael comes to Minneapolis to re-record his vocal, and it was a real glimpse into his competitive nature. It didn?t even matter that it was his sister.? According to Jam, 90 per cent of Michael's vocals on the finished version was taken from that original New York session.

When she says "stop fuckin with me" :kii:
I FELT MJ on this song. Also on "They Don't Really Care About Us" fjjjj his voice was so expressive
SING QUEEN!!!
I wish she gave this more too, but I honestly think Jan is a bit of a lazy vocalist at times.
She doesn't have the strongest voice, but she knows how to use what she has. i just wish she sang out more.
We all joke about the whispering, but if you listen to some of her older stuff she was really singing.
Over time I think she got lazy and started relying on that whisper coo mess.
She & MJ really are the fuckin King & Queen.
The fact that they are siblings and each became legends in their own right.
Who the fuck else? :stressed:
f
I'm so mad they never performed this together. That would have been epic.

They had so many chances to as well
They were both on WW tours after that song
Imagine the stage :gorlonfire:
But I'm kinda glad they never did, the video brought the song to another level, I dont know if it would have translated live

!!!!!!!!!
She definitely didn't whisper until later on. Janet actually lowkey kills to me. Kinda like in that Aaliyah way, and i love her tone. U can tell she has an ear for music.
I didn't know it sampled "The Knowledge." That was Mike's favorite Janet song. :stressed:
I don't like how she sounds in most of this
her tone is more pleasant when she's not strained like this
