I could hear that wretched tone and rasp on the verse tbh
QuoteHer label didn?t care for Caribbean music at the time,? he says, adding that he almost kept the song and considered giving it to Alicia Keys. In the end, however, RiRi ?fought for it.?
?She said, ?This is my family?s favorite song,'? he adds.
Discussing Kehlani, Kylie Jenner, and his growth as an artist, PND also addresses his private nature in the piece. ?You don?t really know anything about me,? he explains, ?and that?s how I like it.?
See more highlights from the article below.
ON MEETING RIHANNA: ?The first feeling I got was, ?Why am I here?? All these guys have made hits already.?
ON KEHLANI CONTROVERSY: ?No one knows the details, and I don?t care to defend myself.?
ON KYLIE JENNER: ?I?m grateful that really pretty girls like my music, and social media just happens to like really pretty girls.?
ON GROWTH: ?More people?s eyes are on me now. The people are literally watching me find my voice.?
ON REJECTING HITS: ?I could make a PARTYNEXTDOOR album that?s clean, all hits. That?s not what I care about doing.?
ON WORKING WITH DRAKE: ?I openly share music with Drake, especially when it?s time for him to have a project?I have an older brother I can text anytime, someone who?s super invested because my name is tied into his. It?s just creatives cooking. If he sees something in a song of mine that he feels he can spin around and make better, who am I to say I?m going to selfishly keep it? As a fan of music, that?s wrong.?
ON SUPERSTARDOM: ?Of course I want to be a superstar, but it doesn?t happen overnight, and I see that from having a mentor.?

i mean, this was an obvious one for Rihanna if u hear the demo
another catchy repetitive song with an island tinge is obviously right up Rih's alley.
It went to the right person.I'm a fan of AK but nah
Glad Rih fought for it. It suits her perfectly.
i cant imagine alicia on anything like that
When she tries to give HIP (Put It In a Love Song), its a mess
Not Alicia turning down Work, Mary turning down Umbrella, and Christina Millian turning down S.O.S.
Give Rih her #1 hits, then.
She didn't turn it down luv
Alicia's ashy HIV voice would've been awful and corny on this
dddddddd not a HIV tone wtf
Wth man

But dryy, me a desert! :blessed:
Interesting
I just read yesterday that the maroon 5 song (if i never see ur face again) was initially supposedly to be a janet duet. Im glad it fell thru and rih got it. I loved her on that
That would've been dreadful.
Whew thank god Rih got it, and made it a classic.

oh wow
I love what she is doing right now. Rihanna keeps releasing albums.. She is always working on something new and she gets good promotion. And she is one of the few artists who makes nice quality music videos.

yes :raycharles2urmess:
Alicia sang other caribbean influence records with other artist and slay...at the end day what works for one artist may not work with another! So I'm glad she released In Common instead
plus if alicia had recorded it....it wouldn't even sound similar to Rihanna's version :dead:
terrible song
song was trash n still don't seem as huge as her song umbrella. she doesn't have a sound n plays into others hype like workin w drake. shouldnt she be past jumpin on trends. Never saw it for her even back in 05 when fags said she was dope. I was like NOPE. Anybody could sing rihanna songs past or present
