It Seems Like Nobody Wants To Buy Jay Z's Tidal

Ever since it launched in the U.S., Jay Z?s Tidal has appeared to be up for sale, or at least those are the rumors that have been floating around the industry. The streaming platform has only been in business (at least in its current form) for about a year and a half, but already in that short time frame potential purchases by two major players in the music space have popped up. Both were vehemently denied, and with some new financial revelations about the company, it isn?t difficult to imagine why nobody wants to purchase Tidal.

Apple is the latest giant tech firm to make its intentions when it comes to Tidal very clear. Reports began circulating earlier this summer that Apple might be interested in purchasing the celeb-fronted streaming platform. Though the world?s most valuable brand isn?t known for frequent acquisitions, often opting to create new products and services on its own, the purchase could have made a lot of sense. If Apple had snapped up Tidal, it would be the only serious player in the industry to be securing exclusives, which could have helped it gain another competitive advantage in the streaming wars.

The possibility of Tidal joining Apple disappeared when legendary music industry executive and current Apple employee Jimmy Iovine spoke to BuzzFeed, saying, ?We?re not looking to acquire any streaming services. We?re really running our own race.?
