I wonder why. But they really be taking this so SERIOUSLY... It is refreshing but then again I couldn't have hours of conversation about something so trivial.

Both.

They make a lot of valid points. Urban as whole has come long way in the UK, but R&B/Soul has always been a few steps behind. It's gotten better though, I think the chart success of American acts in the early 2000's like Destiny's Child, Eminem, Missy Elliott etc made labels realize there's an audience for this sound. That's when the shift from Black music to "Urban music" began making it more accessible to mainstream audiences.

I find it funny because to me the UK had always been the home of a huge soul music scene.

Sade, George Michael, Lisa Stansfield, Seal, Simply Red, Des'Ree etc. it was never "urban" but soulful. We had all those CD's in our household. And growing up Jamelia, Mis-Teeq, Craig David, Lemar were superstars.

For the genre to have not even generated in the UK their scene has been big, so I do t get why they feel it's so small. Especially when no other country has such a big "urban" scene except for the UK.

It's actually stressing how they compare themselves to the U.S. so much. They have an entirely different historical context. All western countries really adapted the U.S. Genre format of R&B, Pop, rock, hip hop etc and just add their nationality.

Let me check these out on my free time. I always thought UK music scene was slightly better in their embracement of black/soul music and artists.

Sidenote I been jamming to MNEK's EP.
