Growing up I always thought Arabs are mostly white, and I considered myself half-white. Also Irfan was always white to me. But the more I see Al-Jazeera and read up academia and see how you guys talk, apparently Arabs are not white, ergo I am not white at all. How did you view Arabs growing up? As Asian, black, white?

There are three races: white, black, asian/mongolian.
Honestly not sure where Arab's fit in.
they're cool people though. lots of them here in NYC.

I used to distinguish Dark Indians, East Asians (including native Americans), Blacks, and Whites as a kid. And Arabs were just whites with dark hair like Italians.
But then most modern literature says race as such really does not exist in humans, except for Aborigines, they are the only genetically unique group among humans. The rest mixed too much.
I am genetically much more closer to pure Igbo people than 99% "pure" Africans even though I do not look like it at all.
I consider them their own thing. Def not white.
White arabs aren't considered white here because White is an exclusive group that you have to slowly be allowed in unlike black that's pretty much a fucking free for all.
So I wouldn't use American's opinions since it's rooted in social dynamics and not "racial background".

It is really interesting how a person that looks just like Giovanni or the Greek guy next door will turn non-white cause actually he is Ahmad and he speaks Arabic. But I guess it is kinda comparable to Hispanics. When I realized J. Lo and Fat Joe in the US aren't white I had to understand everything is arbitrary.
I'm Asian
I know you are not Arab btw. I was just pointing out that even if you are geographically Asian or MENA but still be white to me.

I'm Asian
Have you always felt "Asian"?
i mean technically I'm half South Asian. Based on that background I never really felt "white", in the sense of white German. Slightly OT: Germans never think I'm German really...the other day this woman in my company had the nerve to tell me my German is really good. I read her for filth :flamebroiled:

well I guess it's cause I'm half German. Or would you consider a person from Pakistan/ India white?

that is tricky. iono if they look like you as in like Turks or some I would consider them white. If they look really brown/dusky giving Tamil tease, then they are their own mess.

so ultimately you're using the skin-tone to categorize?

I use how they overall look to me. Hair, face, skin color, eye shape.

That's because being "white" atleast in America never had anything to do with "race" half the people considered white today here are only considered that because it somehow benefited the hierarchy. Like the Irish weren't white and suffered and even revolted with blacks. They became white when they were coerced into denouncing blacks and doing little things that added to white supremacy.
They remained low on the totem pole of whiteness but hey atleast they had more rights than blacks.

Back in those days legally you weren't even allowed to buy land or immigrate if you were considered Asian or any other non-white. The Finnish had to go to court to not be considered Asian I read. The West is morally the most fucked up society I can imagine. Maybe next to Islamic world lol. Both are kinda vile.
