Title: Honesty Hour: DNA Discussion. Was Bey wrong for this in your opinion?
Post by: Bentley! on September 20, 2015, 06:45:54 PM
(https://acriticalreviewofthehelp.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/beyonce-loreal-ad.jpg)

am mean... I would dare say a majority of her career wasn't built on Native American and French sales, but black sales.
But the second Loreal wanted to market ha power for more sales, it's like... bam

but up until that point, she'd been a dominant African-American force.

This is actually a good discussion, because as African-Americans we know we're essentially mutts.

But with the skin-whitening, and blonde wigs... do we downplay our AA too much?

what if Bey did the commercial with her natural hair, which I'd imagine looks closer to Solange's styling. Isn't that her truth?

nnnnnnssnnssnnsnsnnsns

wtf :omgwatshappening:

But in all seriousness, she has the right to claim her heritage. However...
I wish she had like you recommended, gone all natural.

She should have known that claiming French blood with a blond wig PLOPPED on ur head would cause some controversy.

Also, I don't know if she took this step or not.....but before I claim anything I'd make sure it was actually was in my bloodstream through....as in, confirming through scientific means. Especially for an advertisement which promotes products to compliment your ethnic mix.

A lot of us are walking around with light skin thinking we have Native mess in us, and it's just not there.
It's more slave rape white mix than anything.

it's alarming how disappointed these gorls were. :plzstop: :uhh:

Afro... maybe you can clear this up
Why does the pic say, "African-American, Native American & French"

that's not a proper breakdown is it? :dead:

I mean, did your results come back reading African-American? .... I always just thought we were a culture, and we accept the fact we are mutts :dead:

the term African American, by default....can include a myriad of countries and ethnicities.
Due to the slave trade...

ALL of us have detectable European in our blood. ALL of us. You are not going to find one black person who was born here, who has family going at least 2-3 generations back in the states and would test as 100 percent African in a DNA test. impossible.

The listing:
African
French
Native American

Would have been more fitting IMO. Even though African is very general. Native American is very general as well. The tribes were spread throughout North America, South America and Mesoamerica. they mentioned no specific tribe affiliation. and that's fine. French would be the only thing really specified.

African American is always gonna include some sort of European mess. but mess.
I guess that was just L'Oreal's way of saying "black". Which again though...ugh nvm :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop:

More of us should look to our families to find solace within ourselves, and comfortability in our skin. Looking to media or social media for validation is a recipe for psychological disaster -- most of us are somehow programmed now to NITPICK everything about people .

"oh, cute pic , but she using a filter!"
"her shoes aren't tied...."
"her nose, when she turns to a 90 degree angle, it looks big.. :udontlookok: "
"i know he got activator in his head lolz"

If you don't know who the hell you are, you are wide open for these miserable people to invade your personal space, since your being is based off of THEM, not your truth and self knowledge and love.

There's nothing more powerful, that I've experienced at least, than knowing who you are inside just as well as you know your outside. I'm so happy I have inspired others to know their truth. This is something we've been ROBBED of for so long as black people, why the fuck not take advantage of it?! :fuming:

it is, kinda
not with "african american" in the listing though.
there's a difference between african american and african. big difference.
at least when you're attempting to go back into history and claim your heritage. african american is something you'd use to describe yourself in the present day. not your ancestry.

the commercial clearly references her ancestry. she says that her skin is a mosaic of those who came before her. that is heritage she's referencing.

creole would be African, French, Spanish and/or Native descent.

Which is why I'm confused as to why they put "african american", then listed the other things. it's not a big deal, just technically it's a little off, and kind of clashing. if you're going to break down HERITAGE, break it down. African American is not something you'd use as a real breakdown of your actual heritage. but then again, white folks from L'Oreal put it together. so thats to be expected.

in any case, Beyfasa is entitled to claim her ancestry. it's hers. if she knows it to be true, press on! as long as people aren't walking around claiming things they aren't. there's no harm in loving EVERY part of who you are.

Actually that's an extremely common thing mostly because people don't know the difference between Nationality, Race, and Ethnicity.

dddd

its easy to get the two confused though.
but african americans are how we identify ourselves.
if someone asks my identity, i am an african american. the term in itself describes us as black people -- who are inherently a melting pot of ethnicities.

now if someone asks my heritage, I am of Bantu, Lemba, Lumbee Indian, Ethiopian descent.
or even just saying African, Native American would somehow suffice. (even though its so general)

I'll admit before I began educating myself on ancestry I would have probably made the same misstep. It's no biggie. But it's good to know. L'Oreal DAMN should have known.like wtf....??/?????////// ?????  :uhh: :uhh: :uhh: :uhh:

Nah it's not shocking that they didn't know. I mean the term African American is similar to the terms, Dominican, Brazilian, Mexican etc., but when you hear African American you think BLACK so people are going to be up in arms like WAIT but if it said she was Colombian, Native American & French no one would have said a thing because people view that and other Latin American nationalities as separate entities despite having the same racial make up as "African Americans" just in different degrees.

I'm sure if J.lo's commerical said Puerto Rican, Native American & French less people would be like WAIT bitch why did you put PUERTO RICAN with Native American and FRENCH, unlike Beyonce (And other darker Black AMericans cause people who look like Bey usually can get away with it, she's just Beyonce so she doesn't.)

isnt this just the breakdown of what "Creole" heritage is made up of?
it is, kinda
not with "african american" in the listing though.
there's a difference between african american and african. big difference.
at least when you're attempting to go back into history and claim your heritage. african american is something you'd use to describe yourself in the present day. not your ancestry.

the commercial clearly references her ancestry. she says that her skin is a mosaic of those who came before her. that is heritage she's referencing.

creole would be African, French, Spanish and/or Native descent.

Which is why I'm confused as to why they put "african american", then listed the other things. it's not a big deal, just technically it's a little off, and kind of clashing. if you're going to break down HERITAGE, break it down. African American is not something you'd use as a real breakdown of your actual heritage. but then again, white folks from L'Oreal put it together. so thats to be expected.

in any case, Beyfasa is entitled to claim her ancestry. it's hers. if she knows it to be true, press on! as long as people aren't walking around claiming things they aren't. there's no harm in loving EVERY part of who you are.

d

Actually that's an extremely common thing mostly because people don't know the difference between Nationality, Race, and Ethnicity.
!!!!

I'll admit before I began educating myself on ancestry I would have probably made the same misstep. It's no biggie. But it's good to know. L'Oreal DAMN should have known.like wtf....??/?????////// ?????  :uhh: :uhh: :uhh: :uhh:
