Does the differentiation even exist?
I just see myself as dark skinned.
However
I see people describing themselves as almond, walnuts, gently baked pizza crust, flour tortilla and mess and 9 times out of 10 I'm looking at them like :udontlookok:

Darkskinned is anything comparable to a Hershey's bar.
Ashitty and Nia Long can be described as brownskinned.

not at all. :dead:
colorism runs deep in other communities; latinas, italians, asians, indians etc;
eurocentrism and the elusive "beauty standard" is pretty much to blame for all this.

Let me rephrase that.
I think African Americans are the only ones who talk about THEIR different skin tones.
And the same for other races. If that makes sense.

U gotta be proud of what u got.
I love my dark skin.
To deny yourself is to deny your parents, your grandparents, because that's who made you this way.

White supremicy has worked it's way into all kind of cultures, though. And a lot of people talk about specific shades being previewed as better. I used to work with some Indian ladies, and they were having a conversation about how you should drink a lot of milk while you are pregnant. I asked why and they said people believed it would make your baby lighter skinned. I just thought to myself I had no idea they were effected by this mess just like black people.

Yeah I think African Americans are actually some of the tamer groups when it comes to the light skin/dark skin mess
Atleast we acknowledge it's wrong.
The girls in Asia will tell you you're an ugly soot darkie and then advertise some skin lightening cream to you.

Yeah the whole redbone yellowbone brownbone blah blah is dumb to me.
Would it be inaccurate to call Lupita Nyong'o Darkskin and Kerry Washington Brownskin if asked ?
I think that's the beauty. We come in all shades. Nothing wrong with embracing your individual complexion. As long as you're not using it to show some sort of superiority over another. It's the intent behind it imo

You are absolutely right, it's all about the intent behind it.
And I've said that many times, in regards to the beauty of our variety when it comes to the tones we come in. we kinda shit lolz :justabit: and it dont fucking CRACK. :supluv:
