that has to be the best acceptance speech i've ever seen.
usually the gorls get up there and TRY to give a humble, prolific tea. she just did it so effortlessly.
and i love the fact that they preceded her entrance to the stage with the fact that she graduated from Juliard. :supluv:
i can't help but to wonder about the comment she made about taraji's, halle's, gabrielle, etc.
all of them seem to fit into a certain category of black women...the "pretty" black woman...more exotic, or light-skindedededed, etc.
I don't wanna assume but I think she pretty much meant they helped open the door. and showed that black people are not just dark skinned with tightly coiled hair. we come in varieties.
am i the only one who got that from her speech? maybe i'm digging too deeply.
if that was her gist it was extremely honest of her.

she named all of the black actress who are currently starring in primetime television shows.
taraji - empire, halle - extant, kerry - scandal, meagan - minority report, gabrielle - being mary jane
black women are kind of winning rn :ohwow: hopes this translates over to film

got it. that's what threw me off.
I didn't know that halle and megan were still active. so i assumed there was another theme involved.
there's always seemed to be a tightly knit sisterhood between black woman in hollywood and viola expressed that.
reminded me of when halle thanked vivica fox and jada pinkett during her oscar speech :stressed:

wow.
Yeah, honestly I wouldn't expect someone like Viola to thank Megan.
Just goes to show how empathetic and supportive they are to one another.
speech reminded me of that tumblr post with different interviews of Taraj, Viola and I think Octavia Spencer complaining and not being able to find good roles even after an Oscar and then a quote from Kirsten Stewart saying all she has to do is snap her fingers to get a role and that she can't deal with the stress of being offered all these roles.

but in all fairness, that is
her world. she can only speak of her experiences, just as our women can only speak of theirs.

!!!
and a lot of white actresses seem so clueless about it. like this shit...
viola saying their aren't any roles for older black women and then charlize comes in with "but you're so pretty"
gorl what the fck does that have to do with what she's saying? :uhh:

I'm screaming they swooped in quickly and made it about all woman
I bet Charlize was itching to pull that South African card.
"But I'm South African!"
I'll never forget though. The first time I was on a film set they were practically begging extras to show up but my white friend came and told me that he was going to invite another one of our friends but they told them to invite more white girls cause too many black girls showed up.

She checked Charlize's bullshit real quick.
Like hun, I'm very well aware of the image I project. But thanks.
ssss
But I can see why Charlize interjected, as a female. She took Viola's self comparison to Halle as an implication that she was not as beautiful. When that's not what she meant. There is a difference between beautiful and "beautiful". Which Viola seems very well educated on. So No need to patronize her , hun. :sobusyjetsetter:

I kinda felt some way, but then again not because she was the ONLY person who won that they mentioned went to a prestigious conservatory for college as if that solidifies her position or talent as a black woman.
Then again it is Juilliard & they birth the best of the best, but had Kevin Spacey (also a Juilliard alum) won would that had been announced?

I get exactly what you mean. I also wondered "do they usually announce that stuff?" :plzstop:
But I see no harm in pointing out the fact that a black woman is actually educated. If anything it only spiced up the BOOK even more.

yes i got that too...
ghjghg...i can only imagine the identity issues she's had growing up......being raised in south africa but being white and not being able to lump yourself in with experiences that blacks go through...
QuoteI always thought Charlize was classy but after watching this i'm left quite disappointed. She's full of herself and uses too much profanity even when it's not needed.
QuoteMichael Fassbender is out of this world, he is one of the best actors ever, super dedicated. Charlize sounds so arrogant really, keep your mouth shut you would look better...
QuoteCharlize Theron was so fucking annoying throughout the entire panel discussion. I don't think I've ever seen a more egotistical, narcississtic twat in my life!
jhkjhjhghghg they're dragging her on youtube..
people cant stand her for some reason....even in the clips were she comes off kind of likeable
QuoteThat's incredible that Charlize only started learning English at 19! You'd never know it
QuoteYeah I'm sure she's lying about that. English is a mandatory language in most (if not all) mainstream South African schools from grades one to twelve. She grew up in Benoni, which has a population of about 200 000 people. I can guarantee you she learned English in school like most of us did, she just learned another accent when she moved to the US, not an entirely different language from scratch as she implies in this video. In fact, she attended the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg, I'm sure she spoke English there. Charlize Theron is just REALLY good at making people think she grew up in this derelict little shit hole of a village with only two telephones and a single bathroom per forty-eight people.
tears
Oh they read Charlize

but it's the same BS they do with people like Obama. People kept praising how articulate and "well spoken" he is/was, but I've NEVER heard them say such things about white candidates :dead: the fact that they feel the night to highlight these things, comes off a bit backhanded at times.

Unintentional but still backhanded
Like they've never seen a black man with so much poise before :dead:
