I befriend white people as well.
Really don't believe in going around hating everyone or avoiding certain races.
But, at the end of the day, if we're all watching TV together and a story about some Black person being gunned down, or someone using racist language in the white house pops up on the screen..only one of us get hurt and angry about that that. And it's not Becky.
That's where we're reminded of our differences.
There are differences. I just can't be blind to that. But I agree, nothing wrong with being nice to everyone.
yeah, IDK
while you have some whites that play blind to the bullshit, there are a lot that recognize the overall human struggle, whatever race or gender you are. It would be wrong to pigeonholed every white person to some racist label just because they were born white. I also can't expect all white people to be sensitive to the plight of brown people and then be automatically offended when I find out they're not. It's not their responsibility.
Imagine if you had a little person for a friend and it's a similar situation of you watching TV and somebody cracks a midget joke. You're not gonna be as hurt by the joke as your friend, but does that mean you need to brush up on the history of little people and surround yourself with a bunch of them to learn what their triggers are? I don't know.

Honestly it makes no sense to penalize people for not knowing how you perceive the world. There are some people that truly don't know or understand others' hardships. We've all been there, I'm sure

There's absolutely nothing feminist about Beyonc?, Nicki, Taylor or any other pop star.

I don't think prejudice is right either. But, it's a part of normal life. We cannot help it. We all do it , in different ways - whether it's because of the way they speak, or dress, and yes, sometimes it's based on skin color.
I was just discussing how I feel more comfortable around Spaniards/Italians, etc. because they're more "off-white" as opposed to stereotypical looking white people (blond hair, blue eyes, etc.). These are things we can't help sometimes. But I realize it's wrong. So I try to fight against it and give everyone a fair chance.
Becky doesn't have to know the in's and out's of slavery for us to be acquaintances, or even friends. But I just don't see myself getting very CLOSE with Becky. I have one best friend and she's a Black woman. We can talk about situations that affect our community and still be on the same page even if we have difference in opinion as to how progress should be made.
It varies from person to person. But that's how I feel.
yep, everybody has had their hand in the prejudice cookie jar. It's crazy how there are so many different groups in life that you can prejudge and how sometimes you didn't even realize you were being slightly prejudice
I understand why any brown person would be cautious around whites though. It's harder for me nowadays than ever before to just be cool with some. I find myself sometimes thinking of slavery or a lynching when I initially see a white person. That image popping into my head is enough to stop me from interacting with them altogether.
But I have to accept that they are humans too. And they're not going anywhere. In fact, most job opportunities or career ventures will involve a slew of them. So as horrible as slavery was and as horrible as the confederate-flag wavers were (and everything they've has evolved into today) a brown person that wants to build something has to find a middle ground with whites. And it's definitely a struggle.

I don't think they're all inherently bad, no. And I agree that my personal stance on interacting with them doesn't really contribute to American harmony. But I've had enough bad experiences with them to where I just don't even want to be in a position where it's allowed to happen again. Also I'll say this is strictly in reference to American whites. I've actually made a couple white friends here in Europe that I've had some really good times and conversations with about this.

I love when a white person admits that there is white privilege and racism.
That means I can trust them.
v
Oh Lord. Not trust in that sense.
But I can trust that they're honest.
b
Okay love
And now I'll break it down even further.
They're honest with what exists in this country, so I can have a conversation with them without them denying that slavery even existed or that there are crooked cops.
But I'm done explaining myself. If it isn't clear enough by now I'd recommend grabbing Windex for your screen.
So im not sure if you're having a bad day but you have one more time to attempt to be shady love. Chill out it's not that deep. :uhh:

No white person is to be trusted. None. I'm telling yall. You'd be a damn fool to let your guard down around them. I'm convinced every white person has hidden intentions. The things I've seen,,,,,, yeah fuck them all
when are some times whites have betrayed you? I'm not doubting you at all, I'm just curious
Omg it's so many times but most prevalent was around the time Tamir Rice was shot. This was a little boy, someone's son. Playing alone by himself and we were having a difficult discussion and the census of all the white people was that "he was at the wrong place, wrong time" Forgetting that this is a child. Mind you these a very family oriented people, Black friends, family members. Black causes! Only to turn around and give "you think if Black's just did the right thing they'd be better off?" :uhh: yeah there is more but that's where it started.

not the works sdndsd is it a pizza

I agree with all that. I never said it wasn't okay to vent at all. I believe in that. I'm black. I've had whites spew racist shit at me before. I've been in the trenches of it and have seen it happen to black friends, especially as far as career ventures go.
I'm really just tryna convince myself that not all white people are terrible, because recently it's been very hard not to believe that. I'm coming from a pretty skewed point of view Ig. It's been hard to see certain white friends as just friends and not "white friends."
!!!!
This is where I am right now. I totally get how you feel.
You feel me? :stressed:
hkj
I like her.
I think it boils down to people not willing to give away parts of their privileges for others to advance. If they acknowledged that they indeed were to be somewhat privileged the natural consequence in their head is, do I have to give sth up in order to achieve social justice.
