This rich tone :loose2when: :loose2when: :loose2when:
She was in the wrong era. If she were singing in the 30s-50s, she would have been huge.
Clive, you idiot. :hmph:
:stressed: :stressed:
:loose2when: I can't get over her tone. Was it velvet? And the resonance was perfect for the stage. That and her dramatic performance approach to singing really did her well in musicals. Sis should have stuck with it and won some Tonys. :stressed:
Clive really dropped the ball with her
:gorlonfire:
And :dead: at when she put her big foot on his desk.
Her voice
:stressed:
One of my fave singers ever. Her story makes me so sad. :stressed: Fuck Clive!
Omgffffff her tone
What did Clive do? I don't know the whole story
I dont know much about her but wait
He refused to promote her or treat her right musically, basically. He wanted a pop princess. Phyllis is clearly not that type. He found is pop princess in Whitney and paid Phyllis dust.
Sis killed herself because she battled depression for decades. :stressed:
Her story was the first ever Unsung episode, and still one of the best.

When Unsung was actually worth watching.
Her story, Tammy Ferrell, Sylvester are all sad stories.
Sis was tragic. Incredibly gifted, charismatic, and beautiful... but suffered with bipolar depression, weight gain, and drug addiction. :loose2when:
If a biopic on her was ever made, it would be incredible.

All of this!!!!!!
TV One needs to make something happen. If Miki Howard received a biopic so should Phyllis Hyman.

omg
I wonder if she envied Whitney at all. That's sad
Her biopic should be a real film, not on TV.
ugh I swear Jazmine is her daughter
she slays.

Perhaps, but her thing was she wanted more artistic freedom. She was clearly drawn to Soul and jazz, and was a live performer at heart. He kept trying to turn her into something she wasn't.
And then Whitney paid the price because she was forced into that pop princess label, when that wasn't really her. Even though she had more success than Phyllis, it was still a burden, especially when he was making her record crossover songs instead of R&B. :usureuok:

If they could figure out how to get Jaz thin and then really big, she could play her. :stressed:

A lot of the girls of that era have spoken about being moulded into the next Whitney, Miki Howard is another one.

:dead: Well Phyllis suffered such massive weight fluctuations, I really don't see how they could get any actress to do it without CGI. The only actor I remember who gained a ton of weight for a role was Jared Leto, and I think he developed gout or something as a result.
Unless Jaz filmed all the big girl scenes first, and then lost weight to film the rest. Going down in weight seems safer.
