QuoteWhile music festivals are all about finding the next big artist, especially with a lineup as stacked as this year's Lollapalooza in Chicago, it's also about remembering the greats. At the festivities earlier this month, Lucky Brand's City Jam after party at the trendy Freehand hotel basically gave fans the chance to go back in time to arguably music's best era: the 90s.
Who better to lead the crowd into the iconic decade than a legendary artist who built her entire career around the time period? Complete with a performance of her biggest hits and the ultimate 90s get-up, it was none other than Brandy who transported the Windy City to R&B's peak moments.
The star championed a denim on denim look, turning the Lucky denim parka into a dress. At only $139, there's no reason why it shouldn't be a fall staple in your closet. At the same time, Brandy brought her outfit into 2017 by rocking the popular metallic shoe trend with a pair of shiny booties.

Apart from her unforgettable look, she didn't hold back on her originals for her set. "The music from the 90s is unmatched and I'm so happy to be from that era," she told Forbes. "That was a time when I really had to be great and bring my a-game because a lot of legends were on the charts. You had to come with something special from the heart that was real and true to stand out as an artist. I'm thankful that kind of pressure was on me because it made me bring my best to the table."
Though those years launched her career and brought Brandy her first Grammy for her 1998 album Never Say Never, the 38-year-old singer confirmed she still has so much more in store for the world. "I got to put this looking young to work. I can't just hold this and not do anything with it," she jokingly said. "I'm really focusing on my music and bringing it back to life my way without any influence of what I've done before. I'm putting my all into it."
When it comes down to her acting career, the Moesha and Broadway star added that she's not ruling out any opportunities. "I think acting is definitely in my future," Brandy admitted. "I'm pretty sure the actress in me will come out at some point because I didn't even know I was supposed to act back then. It sort of just came to me."
Brandy performed her chart toppers "I Wanna Be Down," "Sittin? Up in My Room," "Baby," and more at the party. She was also joined with DJ sets from Brandi Cyrus, Jacqueline Rezak, Chris Masterson and HXLT. To make festival goers really feel like they time traveled, Lucky decorated the venue with vintage keepsakes including neon signs, cassette tapes, and boom boxes. One room from the night even had grunge music from bands like Nirvana, Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins playing in the background.
It was an unexpected setup proving how timeless music can be, which made us all the more excited for Brandy's future tracks.

This is so true. Social media really has been a blessing and a curse for her. At a recent family cookout we were talking about music and my cousin goes ?you know who can really sing? Brandy!!? I was really caught off guard.

I love the weight on Kwee'. She's been in dance rehearsals a lot lately, which could be the cause of the results.
Put back on some of that weight again, Ghan!

Great exposure but how contradictory that after telling everyone her new shit is going to be lit, she let Schon magazine put the horrible "Edible high" as a background... :/

I'm sorry but Brandy needs to do a better job of letting the fans know what's going on with music. This is inexcusable at this point.

Is she in the studio now? How often does she record? Is the album done? How many songs has she recorded post 2/11? Where are they? Is the legal battle with RCA/Chameleon still going on? Why haven't you shared at least ONE full song with your fans given you've recorded so many in the last 5 years? Are you giving up on music entirely? Why are you leaving your fans and supporters in the dark about what's going on with the new music? These are the questions I want answers to...
