Title: Very proud to say that

I am an AA who can pinpoint their origins in West Africa.

Or at least the majority of my origins there.

It is extremely rare that AA's actually get an African cousin match on our tests. I never thought I'd see it. But , I have it.  Having a cousin whose African origins are pinpointed to Mali makes sense of why my highest region in Africa on my test was the very ambiguous "Ivory Coast/Ghana". Up to 50% of my entire DNA comes from this area. (the average from tests run on that area for me came to 36%).

The Ghana Empire was part of what is now considered Mali - before manmade borders were drawn. There's an extremely close relationship between the areas. I knew I had a LOT of history in that general area - and given how high the percentage was I was surprised I hadn't bumped into an African cousin, even though I knew the chances were low that I would. So I was reluctant to go around claiming Ghana when it could very well be Ivory Coast, or somewhere around that area. :plzstop: But my aunt took her test and BAM! There they were. :woohoo: Bulls-eye to neighboring Mali.

I made a small post about it (I fucking blacked out initially when I saw them, as you can see below) but I feel this deserves its own topic. This is a blessing, and a TRUE breakthrough for me. I am very excited.

No it isn't.

For an African cousin , that is VERY close.

It's not "distant". And it's VERY rare that this happens - as in an AA getting an African cousin match. Almost impossible. That's why I blacked out when I saw them. :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop:

Like what kinda LUCK
oh yea I know!

Just keeping Ray in line, I refuse to let him ruin this moment for you. He's a mess :dead:

I may have missed, but is this on your fathers or mothers side? If you don't mind me asking.

Taureg

I'm kinda getting greedy now and want to know where the rest of my African ancestry comes from. Cuz this is my dad's side. But it''s the largest part of my African DNA by far. Very concentrated. So I'm content.

I doubt any other African cousins will fall in my lap. I'll get my grandmother tested and roll the dice. :woohoo: That'll possibly give me more insight on the maternal side.
It's Fulani/Hausa on my dad's side but he's from Ivory Coast, but that shows how HUGE the former empire used to be before the Europeans came and divided the countries up.
