Title: Afro... Get into this bullshit!
Post by: XXX. on September 06, 2017, 04:10:04 PM
QuoteJUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, ARIANA GRANDE, & PHARRELL TO HEADLINE ?CONCERT FOR CHARLOTTESVILLE?

The stars are aligning for Charlottesville. Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, Pharrell, and The Roots are among the artists who are joining forces for the ?A Concert for Charlottesville: An Evening of Music and Unity.?

Set to take place Sept. 24 at UVA Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, VA, the benefit concert will be led by Dave Matthews Band in the group?s hometown and it will feature Chris Stapleton, Brittany Howard, Cage the Elephant, and other special guests.

Tickets for the event are free, but attendees are urged to donate to the ?Concert for Charlottesville Fund? at the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. Proceeds are set to help the victims of this year?s violent Charlottesville rally, where white supremacists clashed with anti-racist protesters. This includes families, first responders, and organizations meant to promote justice.

Shortly after the Charlottesville controversy made news, Pharrell quoted Heather Heyer, an anti-racism activist who died in Charlottesville, on Instagram. ?If you?re not outraged,? he wrote, ?you?re not paying attention.?

Oh, so they get a whole fucking concert?

:omf:

Since it's a benefit concert I'd say this is a good thing. They're white so people will come out and buy tickets and mess.

Confused as to why they'd be heading it but if the bottom line is getting people more help then let them prance around the stage a bit. :woohoo:

Still just a tad offensive.

You know I am PISSED!  :plzstop: :kii:

I'm sorry.  RIP or whatever.  One white woman died.

We don't need to sing Heal The World.   :uhh:

Because where were they.........  you know what I"m gonna say!  :uhh:

And the money better be going to BLACK families affected.  :ummwhat:

And families of white allies who fought for the cause.

OKAY!

Because that black boy was beaten the hell DOWN!

They sure didn't show any of that on the news, though.  :uhh:

And you can tell he's fucking fake because he didn't agree with their removal before this all happened. But, at the end of the day there are Black people who will no longer have to see these overt symbols of racism on their way to work, school, etc. Granted, they'll still deal with it under the table but at least they won't have it right in their face as well.

Ultimately, white allies are of great value to us. Stuff like this continues to prove it. That's why I'm all for Sarah or Jessica who say , "You know what, I'm white but it's not fucking fair that I'm treated better than you." I can rock with a ho like that.

I love your stance on white allies being of great value.  The sad reality is it's the truth.  We saw how far BLM got without any strong white allies that really could have made a difference.

But I still can't swallow it.  Because why weren't they our allies when all the shit was popping off in Ferguson and around the country every other week when some unarmed black kid got killed?  And then the AUDACITY to create All Lives Matter, celebrate police officers & all that other mess in the face of our struggles.

Woo!

I'm getting HOT!  :uhh:

Trust me, it's not very easy at all to admit that someone else's life is seen as greater than your own simply because of the color of their skin. And having them as an ally is crucial. That shit is real as hell and it cuts deep. But like I've said a million times it's time to start just being upfront and REALLY real about everything. Even when it hurts.

And we've always had White allies, Cod'. Think back to the Civil Rights days. Many white people lost their lives as "Nigger Lovers" because they refused to conform to what they believed was unfair.

I think I got a taste of how they felt one day when I was in 7/11. There was a Black customer in front of me and an Indian man was at the register. I guess that he didn't understand what the man was saying and got frustrated. "Do you speak English? What the hell is wrong with you?", etc.

Even though NONE of what he was doing affected me personally I still felt ANGRY that another Black person was behaving that way and talking down to someone. Like, how DARE you. That is NOT right. You are fucking scum for thinking it is . And NO it's not OK with me just because we're both Black. I was on my way to work and didn't want issues so I literally had to CONTAIN myself from putting him in his place.

But at that very moment I understood how some White peopel may feel about their own who behave the same way to other races. I was embarrassed, I was angry and I woulda beat his ass like that White lady did in that hotel lobby mess.

You know what, Fro?  You always present me with some pretty stellar examples.  That's valid.  And I suppose because white people run everything, there will be a stronger (and quicker lol) response time if that embarrassment really is the case.  But I still cannot stand behind it.

Those cringe-y feelings and white guilt should manifest itself when things happen to our people too.  We aren't just protesting for shits & giggles.

This got no traction and was not televised.

But best believe if it was an AList roster of white stars fighting this exact same cause...

Which, I'm realizing leads us right back to us needing white allies.

But it just pisses me off.

Yea, white allies are the only way things will get better but Justin is full of shit. Not once has he vocalized anything about a black life but all of a sudden wants to capitalize once he has a new era..

To be honest I always questioned some of the "allies" but in that moment at 7/11 I really knew how it felt to want to yank your own kind and shake some sense into them. Like wow. If I feel like this and these are my own people, and I am in a moment that does not affect me personally at all but am still angry - it's really possible for other people to feel this way and want to do something.

:stressed:

And yeah it sucks that the video didn't do anything but YEAH again it goes back to those white allies. Yes COdy, it sucks. But it's real.

I guess an elementary mess is different.

I honestly have no white friends.  I only ever deal with them at work.  And it's funny, because growing up, all I had was white and Latino friends.  The first half of my social life vs. now is so funny.   :kii:

Do you and your white friends ever talk about race issues?  Or what's been going on in the world?  Do you think white people truly understand or is it "Awwwww!" empathy mess out?

No .

I just don't see myself really hanging out with White people like that. Nothing wrong with it but even in the office when conversation strays away from work I find myself slightly irritated with them if even one word is off.

There's just a connection I have with POC that I cannot have with a White person so I don't genuinely see myself being friends with them. I'm just used to be around Black people and Hispanic people mostly and that's who I connect with most. I can let my guard down and have a real conversation without worrying about whether they'll slip up and offend me and mess.

!!!!

:oof:

Fro, I usually fuck with the shit you say.  But then I remember we're both Cancers.  :sistas:

I have plenty of white acquaintances but I've noticed distancing myself a lot more recently. It's draining enough to have to lecture family members about social issues every time we see each other so I don't have the energy to entertain "friends" the same way. I don't mind knocking someone off their high horse but I feel like if they really cared, they'd research on their own and answer some of their own non-empathetic questions..

I have plenty of white acquaintances but I've noticed distancing myself a lot more recently. It's draining enough to have to lecture family members about social issues every time we see each other so I don't have the energy to entertain "friends" the same way. I don't mind knocking someone off their high horse but I feel like if they really cared, they'd research on their own and answer some of their own non-empathetic questions..

UGH!

I know that's right, Queen!

Especially about the family part.  I was preaching down at our last family gathering, and I had the entire room shook.  I get so passionate about this mess sometimes.  The turning point for me was the Trayvon Martin case.  I became so attached to that trial, and when Zimmerman got off, I never had such an emotional reaction to something totally unrelated to me before.

And the spiral of racial mess kinda kicked into over gear ever since then.

I still get emotional talking about the Trayvon case.

But YEAH.

I can't do the whites.

!!!

Part of me feels compelled to enlighten and to make it better for the next person but it's also not my job. A lot if it is common sense but they're just looking for ways to make it about themselves and get people to agree with them..
