Title: LaLa: "Let me be Puerto Rican"
Post by: Ashley Bank$ on September 09, 2017, 02:21:41 PM
Brooklyn gorl Lala is here drop a bit of tea. Enjoy. :justabit:

A lot of people took this essay the wrong way - as if she was trying to "separate" herself from Blackness by proclaiming her PR heritage, but she cleared that up in a subsequent interview below. It's about respecting her heritage.

LaLa Says It Loud And Proud: ?I?m Puerto Rican Dammit? Get It Right!!!?

QuoteIt is obvious that LaLa is tired of people mistaking her for being black or even mixed, so she decided to write an essay on it:

QuoteI never said I wasn?t black. And since when does being black and being Latina have to be mutually exclusive?

Don't overlook this.

Black and Latina are not mutually exclusive, what's so difficult about that?!

Black and "African American" are not the same. By your definition Obama isn't "black" either.

Black Americans aren't used to seeing black people fully embrace their Nationality and race exclusively so  there's usually a problem when a foreign black person hypes up their Nationality and it's usually seen as trying to distance themselves from blackness when it's not mutally exclusive.

Like when Lupita was blowing up and she said she was Mexican and Kenyan there was alot of people who side eyed her because of that.

this is why I be so conflicted when black get upset about White supremacy. Outside of the mess aren't they ultimately doing the same thing? Celebrating their heritage/race?

What does this

QuoteWhite supremacy or white supremacism is a racist ideology based upon the belief that white people are superior in many ways to people of other races and that therefore white people should be dominant over other races. White supremacy has roots in scientific racism and it often relies on pseudoscientific arguments. Like most similar movements such as neo-Nazism, white supremacists typically oppose people of color as well as people who are members of most religions.

Have to do with being black and from a Latino country or island?  :dead: :plzstop:

Niggers in Spanish speaking countries know damn well they are black, they go to black hair stores, make Afro music, practice West African religions and identify with other black celebrities. That's why every black celeb has a massive Brazilian fan page.

I honestly think it's only in the United States they develop that sense of Latino. Same for white Latinos in their home country they are white, over here they get lumped in the Hispanic box as if they aren't white anymore.

Cubans, Dominicans etc all have a long history of racial qualifications of white, black & other just like USA.

You only need basic knowledge in the history of the Americas.

And tbh I don't put to much stock in someone claiming "black" anyway.

People forget that it's a colonial term given to Black people and not something we accepted.
Before Slavery in the Americas there were no black people until white people said they were.

it's interesting how Native Americans and Asians were able to make Red & yellow racial slurs and demand you call them by their Ethnic/Nationality or you're racist. It's more complexities than people think.

White people don't really celebrate being white because this WORLD is shaped around them.

Blacks don't have a history of killing others for the sake of Black Pride and Culture though Marg
When people celebrate Black Pride it's usually celebrating cultural diveristy, the overcomings of obstacles, the different ethnic groups, religions etc.
White culture historically is laced with extreme racism and slavery, that's why when you think of "White Culture" the negative connoattaions pop up before the good ones do.

White pride is not necessary because they know the actual cultures they stem from. Hence St. Patrick's Day, Oktoberfest, Polka music.

AA had to develop a new culture.

Black pride is not equivalent to white pride.

Black Pride is more like Polish Pride or Finnish Pride.

Africans that don't want to to be associated with Western culture won't claim the word black because of the negative connotations it holds in the West, they rather prefer to be caLledrod by their nationality or the ethnic tribe.

Yeah I've learned that in alot of countries Black = African American. So alot of time when someone who is obviously black says they aren't black they don't necessarily mean Fuck Africa. They were just taught a different lie than us. They we're taught were all one Nationality first, race comes whenever. We weren't allowed that option so it confuses alot of people when they see foreign non African blacks proudly accepting their Nationality.

I've seen alot of people even get mad at European Blacks for calling themselves British, French etc., especially if they know which African country they hail from.
