I remember reading an article after he gouged his eye that his management knew he had a histroy of mental health and no one attempted to help him.

The stories of what happened to him and the reason behind it has changed so much over the years.

I remember someone saying he was alluding to predators trying to "turn him out" and preying on him in the business. 

I wonder what really happened.
