!!!!

That's the biggest misconception about Native American people. Everyone thinks that they're all an almond skinned mess out.

My great grandmother was simply a dark skinned black woman with beautiful long and soft hair.

My grandmother came out looking more "Pocohontas" than her mother did. lol

Then my mother came out with darker skin like my great grandmother. DNA is weird.

I think dark skinned people get it the hardest.   that could very well be her hair, but people will jump to assume its weave. just as some will jump to assume I perm my hair. I know I told ya'll of that female barber down here that was STUNNED that a dark skinned man could have naturally curly hair. the bitch pulled at my roots to verify that it was coming from my scalp.

and when it comes to my heritage....I grew up with my mother's family. They're kind of all I knew until later in life when I really started reconnecting with my father. And on top of that, I was raised by my grandmother. so I always heard stories of her mother, Chief. I honestly feel connected to her, I've touched many of pieces of artwork, I know who she was as a person.

Which is why I was so elated when I found out that a piece of her is still in me.

It's not about me reaching back generations and generations trying to find proof of something. I know my heritage and was so glad and amazed that it was finally confirmed. I wish I could have met her :stressed: She died like 4 years before I was born. :stressed:

My grandmother said that her mom's side of the family were ALL dark skinned black people. she said they all had gorgeous dark skin and beautiful hair.

I think my grandmother came out lighter and brighter because of my great grandfather.
His family was Mulatto. and he was a very light skinned man.

he's actually listed on some of his documents I found as a white man. which I know isn't true, but it just gives me an idea of how he looked to others.

I like how's she preaching unity among blacks and natives
And how we all have the same enemy

Cuz honestly that's the way i feel
My ancestors.... Which are majority black and minority native
Both were oppressed, killed and overruled  by the same people

And it makes me furious that I carry a piece of that blood inside of me
My grandmother asked me to look further into her dads side of the family as well
But they were mulatto and she knows where that blood came from
Cuz she told me. It wasn't love in London. It was fucking slave rape
And i damn near cried when she told me that. Sometimes I wish she wasn't so blunt
But on the other hand I'm glad I have a grandmother who isn't delusional.

I know she simply wants to know more about her relatives but I cringe just thinking about tracing my great grandfathers lineage.
But Imma do it for her cuz she's done so much for me.
And I'm the one that started the DNA convo with her anyway so it's my fault lolllll

I always thought the NA story was just as sad as that of African Americans. Their story gets glossed over or sugarcoated in schools probably more than ours.

American kids have been fed inaccurate information about Native Americans for so long. And starts with the half false story of "the first Thanksgiving" that we are taught in Pre-K.

The white man is the devil.

And I swore I'd never be the type to be "angry" at white people
But I have to admit the more I educate myself.... The more differently I see them.
Particularly white leaders.
Even now my eyes are tearing up .. Just thinking about this.

And to see that fucking tap dancing Mexican coon
Getting on stage rooting for trump
I wanted to reach through my screen and smack the shit out of her
What amount of fucking money is worth damaging urself and ur own people
Or at the very least .... Embarrassing yourself and them on national television
On a political platform at that.....

I just watched the whole thing, this girl is amazing.
born in 1977? she looks like she's in her mid to late 20s :kii:

and I have to admit before I watched the whole thing I was wondering..it kinda hit me...
if my grandmother knew her mother was Native, why does she celebrate Thanksgiving?  :uhh: :uhh: and even further than that, I'm sure if she celebrates it, her mother celebrated it too.....why?  :uhh: :uhh: :uhh:

but I agree with what she said here, the education back then was limited

but I also wondered why Chief didn't tell my grandmother more about her heritage.
i mean, they lived right on the Black River, which is prime Lumbee land, her given name was Chief for crying out loud.... :plzstop:

but I have to remember that she had 12 kids, my grandmother was one of her youngest. I doubt she had time to sit down and research her heritage like I have the luxury of doing. or to sit and really give my grandmother a play-by-play of her mess.

she told my grandmother the tea and kept it moving  :plzstop: :plzstop:

And I guess actually being Native, she didn't think much of it. it was just who she is. me being primarily African American, we're fascinated by this stuff. :plzstop: :plzstop:

Americans, in general. are fascinated. so funny how white people took the mess from them, but you see so many whites yearning to have an NA ancestor.  :uhh: :uhh:
